Generally, media can get in for free.
More glossy brochures saying great outcomes but unless they actually change the transport being built and the City Plans we just going to have more of the same!! Actual change before more glossy strategies!
Brisbane’s a “connected mega-city of four million people” but people in new developments in Logan Reserve have to walk 5km for a bus service, without proper footpaths
All I’m going to say is that the Green’s had a more effective, and bolder vision of overhauling Brisbane’s bus network than the RACQ’s vision (seen above). And that would’ve been through very helpful cross-town routes.
another talkfest…until a fully empowered and funded SEQ Transit Authority is established…it’s JUST all talk!
Looks suspiciously like their tram proposal from last election.
Yeah this is a really weak and poorly considered plan. Basically a few extra bus routes using electric buses and still calling then metros. Not great bus/train connectivity. No significant cross town routes. And no real improvement in connections between council areas.
Not surprising for a car lobby group but a shame nonetheless.
RACQs media statement about their submission to The Future Brisbane conference.
“RACQ is also urging the rollout of ‘Metro Glider’ services – smaller, more agile electric buses modelled after the Brisbane Metro – to act as suburban connectors, channelling passengers onto main, high-frequency routes. We also envisage them servicing key corridors leading into the city that larger Metros can’t access.
Yes, and we already have these “Metro gliders.”
Just made by Volvo, and not the Swiss manufacturer HESS……..
They’re called the Volvo B8RLEA [Volgren_Optimus], and if any of these RACQ consultants knew about Transport for Brisbane, they would know that they’re located in Sherwood/Eagle Farm depots’.
Metro = electric, bi-artic bus, based in rochedale
Metro Glider = articulated bus, based in sherwood and eagle farm
To have a car lobby group with the influence and recognition of RACQ say that improved public transport is top of their Games wish list is pretty positive support I’d think for the broad goals of BTQ.
There will always be a range of proposals but for them to also be calling for suburban feeders to high frequency routes along more corridors than just the M1 and M2 is also positive. And that it can be done without billions of dollars in infrastructure.
I suspect they’re just using ‘Metro Gliders’ as a catchy phrase to get attention and appeal to BCC’s mindset. We need more Volvo B8RLEA’s doesn’t quite have the same ring to it…
Tell them there dreamin’
Here’s a more detailed illustration of RACQ’s vision of the “Metro-glider” network, come 2032.
Since when did the “Cityglider” and “BUZ” branding fall out of fashion? ![]()
Albeit, with CRR coming online in a few years, there’s a huge opportunity for Brisbane City Council, Translink, and the state government to co-operate, and create meaningful feeder buses to heavy rail that don’t spontaneously end at like 6-7pm. I think a good example of this is 369 Mitchelton to Toombul, via Eagle Junction (its last departure is ~7pm).
The main Future Brisbane Luncheon will be held at the Star on Friday.
So we are likely to hear more then.
I listened to the replay of the Future Brisbane Event today on the CM site and they had the Bne Airport CEO on talking about the Airtrain contract. It sounds like they are really pushing from those rail upgrades along the line as too for PT competition to be introduced to the terminals to help drive down prices.
When interviewing other panelist, there was a consensus of mode share change but they all agreed it costs money. They also said there was a need for more density to make happen. My argument to that is that is it needs to be planned now not in 2035-40. Although it did take 20 years after the Olympics for Sydney to get an underground Metro and LRT up and running.
Where can one find the transcripts or video of this?
No transcripts just a recording
Is BAC making a bid for the Airtrain contract?
