Government Statement: Next Stop - Pimpama Station! Crisafulli Government delivers improved bus routes for the Gold Coast

Commuters on the Gold Coast will benefit from updated bus services starting next week to coincide with the opening of the new Pimpama train station.

From Monday 20 October, the following bus routes will be changed to integrate with the new Pimpama Station:

Routes 721, 722, 724, 732, and 733 will be realigned to stop at Pimpama Station.

The alignments of routes 722 and 724 will be adjusted through a section of Pimpama to provide a better service to Pimpama State Primary and State Secondary Colleges.

The bus route and timetable changes to provide services to Pimpama Station form part of the final stage of the $16.4 million Northern Gold Coast Bus Improvement Package, a joint initiative between the Queensland Government and the City of Gold Coast.

Additionally, route 720 will be extended to Ormeau Station to maintain connectivity to this station.

The opening of the new Pimpama Station will result in timetable changes to rail services at all stations on the Gold Coast rail line, meaning timetables for 26 bus routes require changes to align with the new train schedule.

Across the wider bus network on the Gold Coast, timetable updates are being implemented on an additional four routes to improve reliability to accommodate increasing traffic congestion, with route 759 to terminate at Varsity Lakes station to improve operational efficiency. …

Good to see full use being made of the new Pimpama station. I wonder if the other new stations on the coast will also get bus connections from day one.

Just make the 745 into an all-day 15 minute service…

I do find it interesting that the 740 was bumped to a HF service, but the 745 wasn’t. Maybe they considered it not yet warranted while trains frequencies remained at 30 minute frequencies -the 745 is effectively a tram to train connection, where the 740 services more areas between Nerang and Surfers Paradise.

And a faster link to Broadbeach than the tram itself, mind you!

In straight journey time from Helensvale yes (40mins vs 65mins), but if you were to just miss the train at Helensvale and have to add a 30 minute wait to it, it actually becomes a dead heat.

The irony with all of this is that the LNP (the execrable Ray Stevens in particular) squashed a plan to put more extensive bus lanes along Nerang-Broadbeach Road 12 years ago or so - then part of it ended up being implemented anyway for the Commonwealth Games.

I know we shouldn’t get too political here, but has blue team done anything substantial ever for public transport on the Gold Coast? I’m struggling to think of anything they’ve achieved for the area.

Local Government wise the LNP has been quite supportive of the light rail network historically (Tom Tate is LNP), State, not so much, willing to kill off the tram for short term support in the next election (ie: south of Burleigh).
