Gold Coast Light Rail

I’m imagining you sitting by the tracks waiting for it to arrive at Burleigh

The first tram in Burleigh

Ahh yes, people from Sandgate will be very confused when they see a ‘Second Avenue’ tram stop on their day trip at the Gold Coast.

I feel it’s a good idea to have the stop name be ‘Second Avenue Burleigh’ since there are people who visit the gold coast from places that also have a road named ‘Second Avenue’. It’s reduces ambiguity.

Getting to the pointy end now.

Wow, 6 pm sure is an early to start closures. I hope they have plenty of buses available.

A bus stop with LCD screen has been built and installed at Christine Avenue on the former place of stop 321298, similar to the one found at Cypress Avenue for route 740.

Yeah I think they’re gonna cut route 765 and force passengers to get off the bus and transfer to the tram to continue their journey down to Burleigh and Palm Beach.

The 765 continues much further south than the light rail, and only shares two stops with the light rail (Second Avenue Station and Burleigh Heads Station). I don’t think this limited level of overlap is enough to see the route split.

Agreed, and I hope it isn’t cut. Forcing people to transfer for such a short distance would be absurd.

FWIW, the 705 largely mirrors the light rail corridor between Main Beach and Broadbeach South, so there’s precedent.

God don’t even mention the 705.

That thing should be rerouted in Broadbeach to avoid losing time at the traffic lights of Broadbeach South while also doing a confusing loop.

And the hours of that thing should be cut to about 8pm due to basically nonexistent demand after dark. Why does it get to have a 15 minute frequency at all times when the 750 goes to half hourly after 7pm and the 740 to hourly?

It is my understanding this is exactly what will happen. 765 north was as I understand it to go back to the old route at the Robina end (Station, Town Centre, Christine Ave all the way to Miami). 765 south was to be West Burleigh to Burleigh then balance of the current route to The Pines.

Looking good!

So for the rest of the month testing will be underway to integrate Stage 3 with the rest of the line, and for that trams won’t run at night.

That’s okay I guess, except for one small issue: there’s no bus replacement route added to the GTFS-RT feed unlike with QR railbuses.

No timetable, no number, nothing. It just shows the normal tram schedule (which obviously will be shown on journey planners). Not the first time this happens but still mighty annoying.

Is there a reason that Anytrip has started showing trams overnight with the display of GCL3 on their trams? No idea if this is a new thing

I expect that stems from trams now running all the way to Burleigh after emptying passengers off at Broadbeach.

All the trips are showing as added (with the scheduled one never starting). It appears this is because they’ve added the Broadbeach South Turnback as a ‘stop’.

The 777 will be rerouted to terminate at Stockland Burleigh and will also run to Varsity Lakes after 6:30pm.

You read it here first, lads.
