Why not just name it after the cafe across the road
It must be opening soon if the Translink Map now reflects it to say âUnder Construction - Opening 2026â
The âNorth Burleighâ locality is much further north of Second Avenue, and is effectively centred around Miami Hill (also known as the Little Burleigh Headland) in the suburb of Miami.
Going by Google Maps, that cafe is not at all long lived. Back in 2022 it was a pie shop, back in 2018 it was a convenience store.
However, that large apartment block in the background seems to be a lot more established, and might be more suitable to name the stop after. Itâs called the Second Avenue ApartmentsâŠ

Why not Diana Avenue or something simpler?
I mean, Second Avenue is perfectly fine. It simply doesnât need the âBurleighâ add on at all.

How many Second Avenues are there on the Gold Coast? Broadbeach, Palm Beach, Labrador, Carraraâone of which already has light rail running past it, and another might in the near future, if we get a change of government at the next election.
So I understand the need to have Burleigh in the name.
Naming public transport stops after commercial facilities is fraught with problems, especially something like a café, a type of business that is often short-lived.
Look at the issues in Brisbane with Garden City interchange, named after a shopping centre that now has a different, geographically-incorrect name, or Griffith University busway station, named for a now-closed university campus.
This wouldâve been the best solution IMO, but I guess weâre stuck with Second Ave Burleigh, for now.

Where exactly is the station located? Google Maps doesnât show it in place yet. Is it directly adjacent to Diana Avenue, or is it more between Diana Avenue and Acanthus Avenue? If itâs the latter (and putting it directly opposite Second Avenue), naming it Second Avenue is probably more geographically accurate.
I daresay Second Avenue might also be a more recognisable street location to locals than Diana Avenue is - numbered avenues are generally quite recognisable. Acanthius Avenue might be the most recognisable of all, but itâs also a very long avenue which could cause issues.

The main good thing I see about Diana Ave, is there doesnât seem to be five of them on the Gold Coast. Location wise, it is closer to Second Ave, but fairly close also to Acanthus Ave.

While that does appear true, I still bet the only locals who will know exactly where it that is will likely be the 20 odd people who live on it.
While the Avenues arenât the most prominent of streets, I feel locals will generally be able to identify them as being between Burleigh and Miami, and some more observant ones may even realise that lower numbers are closer to Burleigh, and higher ones closer to Miami.
I worked in Crestmead for over 5 years, and neighbouring Marsden has a series of five avenues which, while I didnât have anything to do with them, I came to recognise them relatively quickly. They are so recognisable in that area that when Woolworths built a store on one of them, instead of just naming the store Woolworths Marsden, it was named âWoolworths Marsden Fifth Avenue.â

Are they gonna curtail the 765 to Christine Ave? It would be very unfortunate if they did, as it could instead use the route of of the 756 between Christine and BurleighâŠ
I donât see why they would. Itâs only a short section of < 2 km, it wouldnât make sense to force a transfer there, only to have to transfer again at Burleigh (IMO). Now, it might be different if GCLR4 is ever built, but for now, I would hope theyâll leave the 765 as-is.
To be fair everyone still knows it as Garden City⊠but the Griffith Uni one, yeah I donât know why they havenât rebranded it.

Had a bold idea: rename Upper Mt Gravatt (the suburb) to Garden City 
.
Keeps the historic name that locals know the area for!
Then that forces UMG busway station to be renamed to Garden City Station
Then rename Griffith station to âMt Gravatt Station".
Thereâs your solution, problem solved, I see zero ways this could be confusing to anyone

To be fair, how recognisable is Christine Avenue, another avenue being used?
Bus stops along the GC Highway have now been renamed to match their station counterparts.
I wouldâve preferred for Mermaid Beach South to be named âAnnette Kellerman Parkâ and Miami North as âMiami Hillâ but it is what it is. Maybe in the future.
