Historical Queensland Plans

i heard someone say once there was a serious proposal to build a subway in the 40s. Then again in 70s and 80s. But i could not find information about either of these plans online

There was an underground proposal attached to the Wilbsur Smith Transport Plan (the PT one, not the highway one) to add capacity to the existing rail network, but it wasn’t for a subway as such (IIRC).

Have a look here Cross River Rail (CRR) - #2 by Metro

Thank goodness the Wilbur smith plan never happened is the one I thing I will say

Much of the Wilbur Smith Plan has been implemented. One thing that was good about the plan was that it was a true whole-of-city transport plan, rather than a patchwork of bus, train and road improvements.

The freeways where not implemented as in the proposal which is good

Yeah we ended up with quite a few of them, but not having the inner suburbs completely demolished for the Central Freeway, Petrie Bight Expressway, Story Bridge Expressway and the Northern, North Western and Western Freeways is always going to be a win.

All this begs the question.

What stuff were they smoking back in the day?.
