This is comedy but it obviously sums it all up.
Aside from Nimbies, it’s also Bureaucracy that is why everything takes so long. Now I get it, we can’t rush projects too quickly and do need to analyse stuff like environmental impacts etc. But there are also a lot of pointless requirements out there that projects sometimes need to meet that are just downright absurd and unnecessary. Not to mention both the government and also council conduct seperate conflicting studies, then community consultation but then don’t actually implement everything. I also think another issue is politicians today are not willing to take on a huge leap of faith and get the project done. Some regulations are important, theirs no denying that. But Bureaucracy, politics and Mismanagement is why we are running out of money for stuff like infrastructure and public transport projects before we even get shovels in the ground.
