Moreton Bay "City of Tomorrow" Advocacy Action Plan

Plans linked from here: https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/Services/Reports-Policies/Plans/Advocacy-Plan

From the media release - I think we can treat these as being in priority order.

  • Bruce Highway Western Alternative
    • Comment: Plan for cars, get traffic.
  • Rapid transport connections:
    • Peak-hour express train on the Redcliffe line Petrie-Strathpine-City
      • Comment: the branch part of the Redcliffe line is about 1/3rd of the patronage off the top of my head, so on that basis it would be fair to give it 1/3 of the trains. Going from 9tph (average wait 3:20) to 3tph (average wait 10:00, but saving 8:00 or 9:00 with an express, net wait 1-2 min) is an interesting tradeoff. But off peak the frequency is where the value is.
    • High-capacity metro from Newport/Scarborough to Kippa-Ring Station and from Clontarf/Margate to Kippa-Ring Station, and rapid bus from Waraba to Caboolture.
      • Comment: at 70,000 people, action is needed now to preserve a dedicated BRT corridor east from Wararba. Let’s work up through the intermediate levels of bus in Redcliffe first, starting with frequency.
  • Caboolture Revitalisation (no AT/PT comments)
  • Bay Cats ($500k sought for feasibility study)
    • Comment: I’d be surprised if the study came back with a worthwhile BCR. But you can make a lot work when the alternative is the ever-congested Bruce Hwy.
  • Advanced air mobility
    • Comment: this feels more like a taxi (expensive, low-capacity) than PT.

Does the mentioned ‘Metro’ mean Betro? Because I feel like Betros are more appropriate for serving medium-low densities (like the Redcliffe Peninsula).

Or are we going to have a full-fledged metro built in some outskirt LGA of Brisbane before the higher-density Brisbane proper?

I’m certain they mean Betro/Bertie when they say metro. Sadly I think we need to assume any mention of “metro” in QLD from now on means a big new bus.

On page 47 under point 1.3 - improved transport connections it has those headline items mentioned above (metro etc) but it also has a point Stating “feeder bus service with integrated timetabling with rail from priority locations.”

This and rail frequency would be great to support them on.

Absolutely. I have an annotated copy of the big PDF in progress. Some more work to do yet though.

Would be good to see bay cats linking Shorncliffe to Reddy, Sandstone Pt, Bribie - thatll be a huge timesaver as currently each way by PT takes me 2.5h from 4017 area starting in Baldy.

Re Bus Rapid Transit, hope they do a loop from Kippa with first to Newport & Scarby then down to Reddy, Margate, Woody, then back to Kippa via Clontarf. Will need to reconfigure the 690 to go Kippa first before Redcliffe Jetty as it can interchange at first stop off the bridge should they go Woody/Margate.

And lastly….. defs link.MBC from Beachmere to Dbay via green bridges !!! Huge missing gap!!!

I’m really hoping that the lack of detail around “advanced air mobility” is an indication that they’re not taking it remotely seriously and is only there to placate some nut councillor who saw a video on YouTube of a guy dronesurfing.

Thinking about it for any longer than a microsecond reveals how idiotic of an idea it is.

Truly, we are not the smart state. I’m sorry, Peter Beattie.

Has anyone actually seen the youtube video linked with the action plan? :sob:

Why does it look like AI-generated slop ;-;

Probably because it is

How are you going with your analysis @alexjago ?
