Long-distance coach services in NSW, VIC, and WA are often supported by government subsidies, ensuring affordable and reliable connections between regional towns and cities. These services complement rail and air travel, providing essential transport options for rural communities.

Queensland
- Apparently no map
- List of mostly private bus operators
- Not clear if it is full commercial fare or subsidised (Greyhound seems to charge full commercial fare for most of its routes)
- Not sure if it is co-ordinated with anything

Tom McGuide has produced a map of the SA regional bus network (not government official), a mix of subsidised and non-subsidised services.

A network map of South Australia’s Regional Bus network
Thomas McGuire on LinkedIn: A project I've been working on for the past few weeks: a network map of…?
There’s been no regional SA bus map for decades, so Tom created one himself
This page does not include all long distance coach services including among others the weekday service between Stanthorpe and Brisbane provided by Crisps Coaches and the thrice weekly service between Caboolture and Murgon by Pursers Coaches. Also there are 3 more interstate coach services a weekly run by Crisps Coaches from Brisbane to Moree, another weekly run to Moree in NSW from Toowoomba, and a weekly run by Greyhound Australia from Townsville to Tennant Creek. I put some screenshots of the interstate coach services.
It’s just not organised in QLD. The would be tourism value in having a map with operators all on it.
Agreed
Gap in network between horsham to ceduna i think
From what I am led to believe, the routes in the initial list are government-contracted, but Crisps Coaches’ runs and the interstate Greyhound run aren’t. There’s also a number of Greyhound services up and down the QLD coast that aren’t government-contracted.
The run between Caboolture and Murgon certainly is though, so I’m not sure why it’s not on the initial list. That service has some interesting history, it used to be run by Brisbane Bus Lines with much better frequency. Some services went from Brisbane all the way up to Biloela!
This is something I’ve been passionate about for ages, intercity regional bus and rail in QLD is so unncoordinated. I reckon it’s time for something similar to V-Line, an integrated and well branded regional bus and rail service.
Welcome to the community @brisbanebuses! I agree, we definitely need to work on bringing long distance coaches and trains under a consistent banner.
