Don’t tell me they actually mention the ‘Helensvale Busway Station’ in the onboard announcements.

They would have just reused the existing Busway Station voice clip that was already being used in Brisbane. No one thought to record a different version it seems . I suspect it’ll be rectified next time they have Ross Newth in to record.

If I remember correctly it goes like this. ahem…

Now arriving at Helensvale station… Customers travelling to Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, please change here for the G:link tram… Customers for the Helensvale bus interchange, please disembark here…

That doesn’t seem too bad, it only notifies about the bus interchange rather than waffle about how the buses would take people from there.

I feel really bad for the Cleveland line commuters who would have to endure the waffly busway announcements five times in a row from Buranda to Roma St.

The new announcements really are a great idea with horrific execution

I’ve bumped you up. You’ve been around long enough

Thank you  :joy:

A friend of mine is on a train to Varsity Lakes now and she’s telling me that the announcement debacle is even worse than we thought.

This is a Gold Coast train, running express from Boggo Road to Beenleigh, stopping only at Loganlea, and then stopping all stations to Varsity Lakes… The next station is Loganlea…

WHY IS IT MENTIONING BOGGO ROAD LONG AFTER THE SERVICE HAS SERVED THAT STATION???

It’s like if I say that I’m running express from Caboolture to Bowen Hills what I’m already on my way to Bowen Hills.

Upon arriving at Loganlea train station, please be mindful that this station is not fully accessible. Loganlea train station will be fully accessible once Cross River Rail is fully operational. In addition, there is a go-card reader that is not operational today, at the north-west wing of Loganlea train station, opposite to Logan Hospital, at Armstrong Road. Thank you for your patience. This is a Gold Coast train, running all stops to Varsity Lakes. The next station is Beenleigh, and then all stops to Varsity Lakes.

Are they trying to outdo themselves and get longer.
As we say to this - “No kidding sherlock”

OMG :weary_cat: those announcements are getting crazier and crazier. Who wants to listen to all that long winded stuff on every commute. No wonder people wear noise cancelling headsets.

Is it worth the effort to complain to QR/Translink or advocate for less noise pollution?

It should be considered

They can easily market infrastructure upgrades on the video screens on the NGRs and at stations. No need for it to be embedded within next stop announcements.

Hasn’t this always been the case though? I don’t take the Gold Coast train as much as I used to, but I thought the description of the overall express section - Beenleigh to Park Road back then - remained static with the only change being the “stopping only at” section. It would drop off Loganlea or Altandi after that station had been passed.

Nah, once it starts the express section it will only mention what’s left of it. If it’s running fast to Beenleigh and passed Altandi, it will only mention exactly that: stopping only at Loganlea, then stopping all stations to Varsity Lakes.

The information overload (and in some cases downright wrong info) has to be dealt with ASAP.

It’s actually painful. I was on an Ipswich service yesterday and after each automated announcement the guard would practically repeat it word for word (including outlining express patterns) in between other announcements about upcoming track closures. It was basically one long announcement between Central and Roma Street that stopped as we were pulling into the platform!

I’m at a point where it actually really starts to frustrate me. QR already completely neglect ‘quiet’ carriages (in the sense that many people don’t even know they exist or that they’re sitting in one) but to now have announcements blaring up to a minute long is just making it worse. Noise pollution is a real thing and I wish QR would acknowledge that.

I would hate to be a person with sensory requirements, it must be incredibly uncomfortable.
