I heard they are planning to plate over the buttons. Stupid idea but anyways.
Yeh the door buttons are iconic
Give the old buttons to the people please Translink if you’re ditching them… I’d love to have one just hung on a wall or door somewhere
If they do away with buttons in which I doubt, it could cause dramas with regulating carriage temperature in addition to using more electricity, adding to operational costs. They will just open automatically at the city underground stations.
The main issue the QTMP is trying to tackle, hahaha
(people taking up TWO seats instead of ONE).
I’ve also heard the QTMPs won’t feature any 4-seaters, if I can recall correctly.
No 4 seaters. What about families traveling
I’m glad that the 4 seaters are going, it will help limit feet/shoes on seats.
Isn’t there still metro style seating in a couple of carriages
Young families gravitate towards the sideway seating carriages anyways ![]()
On the other hand, I’ve always found the 4 seaters to engender antisocial behaviour, not the least being people’s shoes on the seats ![]()

I don’t ride the train as often as others would, but in my experience the four seater seats are more often occupied by only 2 people, or 2 people with luggage, than groups of 3 or more people.
I’m not going to reiterate my points because I feel like it’s a losing battle in what feels like an echo chamber.
a lot of young families would rather drive actually
When I travel with my friends, we often use the 4-seaters. Will be sad to see them go
Trains should be designed around the majority of their runs. which for qld isn’t very busy. emphasis should be placed on comfort, accessibility and seat number. A unit might end up doing 4 peak hour peak direction runs for 5 days a week where the train will be busy. It will be doing far more than 4 trips outside of peak hour during those same days, and on the weekend.
As a far more broader political policy we also should be expanding peak hour. What i mean by that is expansion of normal work hours instead of the traditional 9-5 for workplaces and 9-3 for schools
9-3 for schools, more like 8:30 to 3
In reality we need to design our fleet (not just trains) for peak times so they are properly scalable - same reason we don’t do “smaller” buses unless it is for a very specific application where you will never need a bigger one.
I’m entirely skeptical about the QTMP layout but not to the point where I think it is worth stamping up and down about.
A new update today with tracks laid. The building looks nearly complete. Could be ready to manufacture trains by 2027.
Photo I took this morning in the tilt train going pass the new facility at Torbanlea. I was only going through here a few months ago too, and lots of progress has already been made in that short time frame. They have now started work on the new test track which is why all the land was cleared. That new track will run parallel to the existing track until Aldershot.
The developed worlds most over-priced new rail sets project!
