Working in aerospace, it is nice to see QR catching up.

I don’t think this is QR but TMR. QR only have had input via the consultation phase.

What are your thoughts on the QTMP and do you think we should have just ordered the C series that are currently being built for Perth?.

Idk but what would you keep and change about QTMP. One thing I would personally retain is door buttons. One question I do have though is if they are getting rid of door buttons from the new trains, will the current trains eventually get their door buttons removed or disabled and have automatic doors?.

I seem to recall that a final decision about retaining door buttons is still to be made.

What’s the benefit of removing the door buttons? I’m not sure the AC would survive on an NGR in summer if the doors opened at every station.

I am not sure there is a benefit to be honest.

Works better with platform edge doors :man_shrugging:. Even so, I see no issue with having all doors open automatically at CRR stations and then revert to button operated doors elsewise.

That’s a good point. The only platform screen doors I have seen in use was the Sydney Metro, all doors automated. I wonder what they will do with the NGRs when it comes to platform screen doors?

I know some systems do have buttons on the platform screen doors which sync up with the train, however that’s rare. The platform screen doors being installed for CRR don’t have buttons, so all doors must open at the CRR stations. Does anyone know if there is already a function in the NGR to open all doors rather than unlock all doors on one side from the controls?

Or even at Cross river rail stations, considering on the NGR trains button is in the middle of the doors, the Platform screen doors can open and then you just press the button on the train doors.

Afaik NGR services will automatically open all doors at CRR stations and disable the buttons while in the tunnel.

In saying that, I was told by the QTMP team that long-term all suburban trains will have their buttons disabled and function like the QMU trains will.

What about people boarding?

It’s only a software change they need to do, but don’t they still need them for outside stations to help regulate the temperature?

Apparently the Sydney trains have their buttons disabled inner city and enabled again for the suburban stations, for A/C purposes.

Sydney (and Intercity) trains don’t have active door buttons AT ALL.

Can we please fire these clowns ASAP?

Sydney trains have enabled their buttons especially for stations like Richmond station where temperature reaches over 40 c in summer. Apparently it’s a cost and efficiency thing.

I realise some of the older trains have had their buttons removed many years ago.

That’s interesting. All stations I used to use in Sydney had automatic door opening around 2018 but I never went out as far as Richmond.

I thought the buttons were never used. So it obviously varies. Perhaps only certain sections such as past Blacktown or into the blue mountains where numbers of commuters per station drops off.

Having said that even Asquith had automatic door opening.

Keep door buttons. Iconic part of the train and it’s getting confusing have some with buttons on the side and some in the middle (yes, I default going for the center of the doors now even on older models).

Aren’t the buttons in the centre of the doors an international standard now?

The only sydney trains units that even have door buttons are the oscars, and i’m pretty sure they’re getting removed when they get transferred from intercity duties to suburban duties.

Intercity sets such as the current Oscars and the mariyungs on the electric side, and the hunter and endeavour sets on the diesel side have door buttons, but they are not in use. I think wondabyne has a weird exception but sydney trains do not have door buttons. Like, they do not physically exist, all doors open at all stations on sydney trains suburban lines.
