Are there any questions you think would be valuable to raise in a council chamber setting?
For when, who, and specifically what?
Anything transport (active & public) related on a Brisbane City Council level.
Isn’t the what the opposition is for (red team)?
We are wanting to file any burning questions directly to the transport committee, particularly in situations where Labor isn’t asking specific questions we’d like answered.
With public and active transport levels (11% of trips) so far behind the leading cities (50-70%) and falling further behind each year, why has BCC not changed transport planning and investment to follow their lead?
Do you have supporting information for the above please?
Why is the ideal strategy for operating buses to run them in competition to rail? What problems occur when buses are run to complement and serve rail?
It would help us if members could provide specific examples. A general question is likely to attract a general answer.
I should mention a few examples of where the case of this is:
- The 335 and 310 buses both take passengers from Sandgate/Brighton to the city, while the trains on the Shorncliffe line also provide services from Sandgate/Shorncliffe to the city.
- The 310 continues from Toombul into the Airport Link tunnel towards the City, making no stops between Toombul and RBWH. If Toombul bus station is in close proximity to Toombul railway station, why can’t passengers transfer from the bus to the train to continue to the City? Why can’t there be certain infrastructure that allows for rail-bus transfers at Toombul (e.g. a large, high-capacity pedestrian bridge linking Toombul bus station and Toombul railway station). The 310 can terminate at Toombul, returning back to Brighton, possibly allowing for better service frequency and less bus congestion in the city.
- Speaking of bus-train transfer infrastructure, why do most bus stops that supposedly serve railway stations (e.g. Zillmere (330 & Redcliffe), Windsor (333 & Ferny Grove), Alderly (345 & Ferny Grove), Altandi (140 & Beenleigh/GC), etc) not provide infrastructure that conveniently links the train station to bus stops (e.g. passengers have to walk on Enldon Rd from Windsor bus stop to access the train station, why is there no direct footpath adjacent to the railway line)?
There probably could be many more examples of where buses are designed to compete with rail that I should mention.
In terms of active transport:
In the resurfacing of roads and in their construction, would the council commit to constructing wide sidewalks and shared paths, similar to what has been done at Cleveland-Redland Bay Road in Victoria Point?
Also, a question that probably has been asked before (don’t know exactly how to phrase this one):
In terms of the Moreton Bay Cycleway in Eagle Farm, what is the progress with connections to Viola Place from Schneider Road?
Roads should/MUST have separated bike/mobility lanes not shared paths
“Like almost everyone else who presented yesterday, Dr Buning’s message was clear: invest in separated infrastructure. Providing separated infrastructure—so that e-mobility users don’t have to adapt to sharing space with much heavier vehicles in a high-speed environment or avoiding pedestrians on busy footpaths—encourages compliance with speed limits and road rules; just fiddling with the legislation doesn’t.
Professor Haworth also mentioned research monitoring where e-scooters were ridden before and after separated infrastructure was installed. If you don’t want people riding on the footpath in busy pedestrian areas, give them somewhere safe to ride instead! She also pointed out that on-road bikelanes as currently built are not necessarily safe infrastructure; the “magical white line” does not protect from cars which are the main source of serious injury for people riding e-scooters and bikes.”
Honestly you are right here, let me try again with that in mind:
In the resurfacing of roads and in their construction, would the council commit to constructing wide sidewalks and separated bike/mobility lanes, similar to what has been done at Cleveland-Redland Bay Road in Victoria Point?
while a lot of lines like the 335, and 310 are run really badly and should not run into the city. Bus stops at train stations allows for travel from train lines to aeras they don’t serve like zilmere to chermside.
