Redland City Council is currently doing a survey for network out there, including active transport.
Thoughts on it, what do you think should be done to future proof the network at large? And anyone who lives in the area, there is a pop up session coming up with the Planners at Toondah on the 24th July. Be good if someone could head down there to chat with them if possible.
Interesting to note that public transport useage in the Redlands (before the 50c fares) was a measly 3.5% according to this document, with one of the key reasons being the majority of the network being considered infrequent (although given the low density of the Redlands, increasing frequency may be difficult to justify in certain areas, although Route 250 could potentially be upgraded to run every 15mins long term), other issues is the lack of connectivity between bus routes - up until several years ago, the network was set up as a pulse timetable system, whereby local services would connect with trunk line haul services and that connection would be no longer than 5mins - this is no longer the case.
IMO, I think Redland City Council needs to have a transport levy like other councils to help build on the network and supplement the funding TransLink gets for the network.
I’m going to have a readthrough of these documents in more detail tomorrow.
How so? Despite the circuitous route, Cleveland to Central by train is 3-11 minutes faster than the 275 bus.
It also provides a valuable connection to Brisbane’s bayside suburbs.
Sure, it might not be the only part of the network, but it is important, and I suspect will become increasingly so as traffic congestion worsens and makes buses less reliable.
The fact our buses on these trunk route roads don’t run in dedicate transit lanes is criminal. The bus should be far quicker than train given the different routes.
Not saying train line isn’t an important transport route and should be running at min 15 frequencies but the direct road to at least Buranda should be far quicker.
