SEQ Network Map

Spotted the new network map on an NGR. It seems like it’s been rolling out for ages and yet the NGRs are just starting to receive it.

If I had to guess, it’s because the NGRs use a stick on map instead of using a cabinet which is just silly IMHO. Being stuck on means that all the blemishes in the underlying surface are carried on to the map. The NGRs are powder coated if I’m not mistaken and the surface has a lot of irregularities. This translates directly on to the map and is much more visible now with the black background. Definitely subpar and I hope the future QTMP trains go back to using a poster case for the map.

Given that BCC is renaming KGS to City Hall, the map will also need to be updated in the near future. Park Road has already been renamed to Boggo Road on the map.

Speaking of the new Network Map, will BTQ take over RBOT’s position on the Rail & Transit Legibility Review (RATLR) Forum?

Are there plans to digitize the network maps and make them interactive in the future either at stations or on vehicles?

For example the line you are on will be brighter and bolder with the next station and time to arrival more pronounced. It could also list all transfers of buses or other lines as prompts.

If there are delays, diversions, or special events then the map would display the changes in real-time. It is possible to graphically display where all trains are in both directions, much like how the control centre has.

Still think No link from Nambour to Caloundra on a SEQ Network map looks like it is missing or worse just not connected.

I certainly intend to keep attending!

Aren’t the SC coast links established Nambour to Noosa, Gympie North to Rainbow Beach, Landsborough to Maroochydore/Caloundra and Beerwah to Caloundra?

During the early TransLink years of integrated ticketing, the early Network maps had the “TrainLink” routes Nerang to Broadbeach/Surfers Paradise, Landsborough to Maroochydore, Robina to Kingcliff via Coolangatta and Nambour to Noosa on the early TransLink maps.

IIRC the 600 from Caloundra to Maroochydore on the most recent TransLink network map is linked with the DSCRL Stage 1 from Beerwah to Caloundra (which can be faintly seen in dark gray in the original photo), which is earmarked Under Planning.

Just spotted the new line diagrams and map at Central.

This is the best rail map they’ve had since the one from 1982–86.

What does the one from 1982 look like?

Similar to this, but without the black outlines. Similar curve radii. Massimo Vignelli territory.

I like the new one better! They’ve definitely done a good job.

They have! It’s better than even those early-to-mid-'80s designs.
