SEQ Transport Vision

A really important point about the brilliance of Seoul railways and which extends to many of the best system is they grow constantly over many years. We’re actually in a decent phase currently in SEQ with a reasonable pipeline of projects over around a decade but it needs to continue with a couple of major projects on the go at any one time ongoing indefinitely.

A big risk for Brisbane is what happened in Sydney where all infrastructure was focussed on the Olympics and then public transport improvements paused for a decade after that.

We need to make sure we keep building, maintain the engineering skills and keep improving the network.

We also need to stop them wasting billions and valuable workers expanding freeways!

There are some obvious things to do - Sunshine Coast (should be to Maroochydore), extend the Springfield line to Ripley, start to implement rail towards Beaudesert. These are all things that have already been planned, so should not be put into a steady pipeline of work.

That not so much a Vision as a list of obvious things to be done. SEQ needs a Vision that stops the Vanity projects from being pushed to the detriment of the general public.

That’s why I called them obvious things to do. I’m just saying they should just be put in a list and worked on continuously as a steady stream of work.

Perhaps we could develop a list which would help advocacy efforts in the longer term.

Yes a list of corridors with fit-for-future-purpose projects and trunk routes that gets us far closer to the public transport levels needed that BTQ can campaign on… like RACQ has for more and wider freeways.
