Smart Ticketing

Is Clarks really that much bigger than BQ (keeping in mind that their Park Ridge, Redbank, and Laidley depots were enabled basically simultaneously)?

I get Kinetic and TfB, though.

In terms of fleet and area served, Bus Queensland is likely an overall larger operation but due to having a more rural-based catchment than Clarks, it is possible that Clarks’ services more stops across its routes and carries more people.

Looks like it’s slowly getting enabled on BCC buses

Depot by depot?

Smart ticketing appears to be enabled on (at least some of) the Metro Buses.

Reports on Reddit that TfB goes live on the 24th.

Will Go Cards still have a function?

^^From the comments it looks like depot to depot as suspected. Toowong, Carina, Rochedale and Willawong are now activated.

They will phase them out over the next 6 months. People will have to exchange them for the new Translink card.

Finally, smart ticketing set to roll out on Brisbane buses

Brisbane commuters will be able to tap their bank card, smartwatch, or phone to pay for bus fares from as early as next Monday with Translink set to roll out the final leg of its smart ticketing trial, three years later than promised.

Bus drivers have been undergoing training for the smart ticketing trial, with one driver happily announcing to his passengers on Monday morning that from next week they would be able to ditch their Go Cards.

Considering the new Translink Card hasn’t even been released yet, I think that timeframe might be a bit optimistic.

There was a government statement in January/February stating that contactless payments will be operational by June (brought forward) and the Go system will be decommissioned by December. Thus, a replacement Translink card will be distributed prior to then.

Considering that the th chip shortage is over and manufacturing back up to full capacity, it’s likely that we will see the appearance of the new card sooner than later.

December is more than 6 months away.

Virginia still doesn’t appear to have Smart Ticketing activated. Can anyone vouch for the other remaining depots?

I used it on a Garden City bus last night.

They still have the next 4-5 days to activate it.

Eagle Farm is activated. If I’m keeping count correctly, that means only Virginia to go. Seems like they went South to North.

And as of this morning, Virginia is active

It looks like translink is still working on Smart Ticketing side projects: the current chat-based assistant seems like it’ll be replaced soon by a more friendly looking website.
