Debit cards aren’t an option for some people, children in particular. So, there needs to be some kind of replacement available before it is turned off.
Perth’s smart rider upgrade that includes regional centres around the state only cost 68 million compared to the 433 million upgrade here in Qld, which still hasn’t rolled out to regional centres.
Exactly! The main purpose for the Translink card was really to continue to cater for people on concession fares, as tap and go with credit cards are only good for full adult fares. Having just gotten back from Sydney, this seems to be the exact marketing being used for the Opal Card there:
It is a bit redundant right now that tickets are a flat 50c for everyone, but when ticket prices are eventually lifted in the future, it is functionality that will need to be available.
Not everybody has an NFC enabled device. Not everybody has a bank account. People still need to be able to pay electronically though, so having a card is going to continue to be relevant for a while yet. I do agree there should be a virtual card available though. (Given the way I account for and spreadsheet my personal spending I would probably be more inclined to use a card or a virtual card over smart ticketing - having constant 10c holds on my account would annoy the crap out of me compared with just topping up with the occasional lump.)
I think the name TransLink card is boring. Surely they could give it a better name.
GoGo Card ![]()
The Smart Ticketing assistant has been down since yesterday. You can’t check your travel history and make potential card clash claims.
Seems to be up now
Ah I didn’t go far enough. That’s pre dissapointing
Why are they giving it such a bland name and also, does this mean that our go cards will stop working overnight?.
Firstly the naming, surely they could just call these second generation Go cards or even give them a new name. For example, New York City replaced its iconic metro card with omny. And in Melbourne before Myki, they had the metcard.
I just think we need a better name than ‘TransLink card’.
I like this or my personal fave ‘GoGo Cards’.
What about QNet Card?
"Remember to tap on and off with QNet, and top up at qn.translink.com.au
I was thinking about ongoing delays here activating the account based system. Although not related The Netherlands have partially activated smart ticketing at the same time as us yet won’t turn on the full suite of features including account based management until next year. They are also getting a new card as well to allow full integration with the new equipment. Saying that I am hoping that the Translink card and account based management will be implemented here sooner in Se Qld as well as across the state.
TL seem to have dropped concession cards from their website - no idea if this has been the case since smart ticketing went live last year.
I assume they would use the Translink typeface on the front too, but otherwise quite a nice mockup!
Give it a better name. VYRA or something be a cool name
Eyeballed the font (no idea what the exact font is - couldn’t find it on Google, only found the QR typeface) but yes, the TL font would be used
I would’ve placed a QR code to the TransLink website on that mock up.
translink uses Nunito as their typeface since the rebranding.
