Smart Ticketing

Wasn’t letting me edit the original, but have tweaked them:

Card Back:

Card readers at G:link stations are now displaying logos for the payment methods accepted on them.

A very dumb decision ditching Amex.

They could add it again in the future. Maybe some type of contractual disagreement across Qld government services as a whole.

I’m pretty sure you’ll find it was a tiny proportion of passengers using it, and everyone who has an Amex has a MasterCard or Visa anyway.

Yeah, I saw this at central yesterday too. Must be slowly rolling them out as a software update.

Wonder if the update is to soon include the new card on the terminals?

I do wonder what happened with this:

Boarded a Bus Qld/PRT bus this morning, and the background on the reader nearest the driver had an orange background. Faulty unit?

Edited: the screen showing the next few stops wasn’t working, either. Unsure if related.

Usually happens when the screen module has lost a proper connection with the outer part of the device. Yes, these things are actually two separate parts, which is why they have a keyhole on the side protected by a rubber seal.

Ditching Amex was part of a much wider change to the whole of Government’s banking arrangements.

The Queensland Government in its entirety will not accept any payments to any departments made using Amex.

On the topic of the card readers: one thing that should absolutely be done is to integrate Airtrain QR tickets into the system, so that they can be scanned by the cameras on the readers.

This would also allow for stations to be fully gated, without need for one open gate which is more often than not used by fare evaders.

Is that the new Translink card look we’re gonna see?
Very plain if so

That would be good

Maybe it’s just a placeholder until the new Translink Card is available, because they didn’t want to waste money designing a temporary logo.

If the card features a visually intricate design, even similar to the current Go Card, those screens wouldn’t be able to accurately render them at that size.

The project page of smart ticketing has been updated to include project status - All regions - in progress.

Question around the new TL card when it comes - will it work outside SEQ?
If yes I’m guessing it’ll be in Cairns, Rockhampton, Mackay, Toowoomba & Stradbroke Island regions.

That would also explain why it’s been dead quiet on that front - they’re awaiting rollout of smart ticketing to the rural urban hubs first

It wouldn’t shock me if they were waiting to use the regional area’s to trial the new card since they don’t have go cards to begin with.

I’m actually worried they might have canned the whole regional rollout thing as “too hard”, alongside things like a more complete user management system to check journeys, apply concessions or have a digital go card.
