Very missed opportunity to merge Bindha and Bayo stations to get rid of absymal level crossing
I realise that, but in its current form Bindha is in the middle of an industrial complex and has a very small (if any) walk up catchment. And what I meant about those other stations is that I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the catchment would opt for Virginia, Northgate or Banyo instead. I realise that Virginia doesn’t go via Bindha, but I suspect for the majority of passengers travelling towards the city that isn’t an issue.
From memory the last time I saw passenger numbers for Bindha it was sitting at around 12,000 passengers annually, which equals an average of approximately 32 passengers per day and puts it on par with stations like Holmview, Thomas Street and many of the Sunshine Coast/Gympie line stations. With those kinds of numbers and with the surrounding precinct and the availability of numerous other stations nearby, that’s why I think closing it is a good option (unless the surrounding land is re-zoned and reused).
Interesting fact from a recent BT article I don’t currently have to hand is that Bindha currently has higher annual patronage than Ascot. I believe it was definitely at the bottom of the heap previously (excluding Traveston and maybe some of the quieter Rosewood line stations).

To be fair you could nuke the entire doomben line and it would annoy like 6 people
Hendra and clayfield it’s faster to just walk to eagle junction, 2/3rd’s of ascot’s catchment is the racecourse and as soon as you go more than 2 streets west you start getting close enough it’s easier to use Albion and I guess doomben kinda gets some catchment from east of it but not much

There was more than that on my train yesterday, so it might be a few more than that. Probably about 30 people disembarked at Doomben.

I’d be curious to know current patronage data. I also believe with some intentional upgrades, the extension to Hamilton Northshore and 15 minute frequencies that line could have a lot more potential.
I know there is reasons for it but Helensvale has got to have easily the most disproportionate service pattern relative to its patronage of any station on the system by far
Also does that exclude rosewood, I can’t imagine thagoona is getting more than those

The figures published by BT are for Brisbane only. Rosewood not included.

Likewise Springfield Central.
So is this just patronage within the regular service lines (so like excluding rosewood, Sunshine Coast north of Caboolture and the GCLR) or is it only BCC plus a few outliers like Helensvale and Springfield
Thanks for sharing this. So Bindha is higher than I remember but still only about 70 passengers per day.
I wonder why they only shared stations within the Brisbane City Council area for the quieter stations but then stations on the Gold Coast for the busiest? Although those Helensvale patronage figures definitely create a case for more frequent services on the Gold Coast line. I realise this isn’t possible until the LGCFR project is online.

I believe that long ago Bindha was historically its own suburb or just what the area was called.
That really is a massive area that is considered Brisbane. Boonah, Esk and Kilcoy and almost the entire way to Gatton?
Urban Centre is far more useful IMO.
It’s considerably smaller, and excludes areas that are relatively unpopulated, e.g. Mount Cotton (which has its own UC) and surrounds.

GCCSA gets a bit weird with how it includes all of the Scenic Rim and stuff, but Mt Cotton being its own urban centre is just funny, like sure its separated from other development but we’re talking a big IGA and a few other shops here, the overwhelming people who live in Mt Cotton and have a job would not work predominately in Mt Cotton.

Can we stop renaming everything please!.
Lately this city has just like had an obsession with renaming everything and I’m getting a bit sick of it. It’s already unrecognisable enough from the city it was back in my childhood.
I would like to rename Richlands station to Inala station, simply because its so hard to get a carpark at Richlands nowadays. Its impossible to find one at 7am. Surely this station name change would scaremonger people into using Wacol or Darra instead!!
“Now arriving at Inala train station. If this is your station, prepare to disembark. Doors are on your right hand side. The next station is Springfield.”
