If it wasn’t for the River Cove Estate, they could have done a Springfield Central and moved the locality boundary to match the new station.
I also think Capestone is nicer station name than Mango Hill East, but I can’t see it being split off from the Mango Hill locality and I think it’ll be a tall ask to get the name changed.
Actually, I think Wynnum Central station is well named - it’s where a lot of the shops, tourist spots and government buildings are within Wynnum, kind of like the CBD of Wynnum (hence why I think the name Wynnum Central suits, even if it isn’t the station in the middle)
Fo Mango Hill East station being renamed to Capestone Station, I don’t know enough about the area there, but given what it looks like on google maps I think it definitely should be explored as an option imo
Yet they still won’t change Thomas Street to Sadliers Crossing. I get that it’s not a highly serviced or patronised station but regardless it doesn’t fit the pattern.
I think 1.5km isn’t that far under ideal conditions. It would be much less pleasant with shopping bags in-hand, or in the middle of a Brisbane summer though.
Route 687 (Mango Hill - North Lakes Loop) already provides this service, but it is designed to meet the services coming from the city, so if you’re coming from the stations out towards Kippa Ring you gotta wait, or use the 680.
I mean I have to walk 2km to my nearest bus stop and 3km to my nearest station so I’m kinda used to it. Buses can’t really get to my street because the roundabouts are too tight for them.
Clearly in 1990s suburbia when it was all built, buses, shops or even bike paths were definitely an afterthought, and car centric suburban hellscape was thus prioritised. That said, they did recently add a bike path around the back but that was mostly to improve access to the trails in the nearby wetlands. My area also has the issue of footpaths that will just randomly end at some random persons driveway and there is even this one path that literally isn’t connected to anything, which I find quite ironic.
First, the population size doesn’t warrant it. Second, the original 70s subdivision (hence core) of Mango Hill on the northern end of Kinsellas Road would no longer be in Mango Hill and the people who make these kind of decisions don’t tend to go against historical aspect like that.
