Sounds plausible.
A sceptic would say that its another inception-style broken promise inside a broken promises inside another waiting to happen, and that Caloundra was/is the realistic target all along., if not the State’s backup option.

^ Pretty much the whole corridor was always intended to be elevated to some extent, as far as Currumbin Creek. The recent works change nothing.
I fear you’re giving them ideas. This sounds realistic tbh
BTQ need to get on record from the minister. 1, a commitment to stage 2 rail, and 2, the long term plan for stage 3. Is it metro buses, or will rail be built within a decade from the completion of the other stages?
I much prefer shovels in the ground than political commitments. We once had a political commitment for heavy rail to Maroochydore by 2032. See what I mean?
If it’s any consolation for the VL2T upgrade, the main project page still states as a feature
https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/projects/pacific-motorway-m1-varsity-lakes-to-tugun-upgrade
“Preserving the corridor for a possible future rail extension south of Varsity Lakes.”
So hopefully they move forward with that at some stage. Unlikely for 2032, but perhaps not that long after?
Are The Wave Metrobuses (from Birtinya to Airport) actually going to be running 15 minute frequencies? Because that’s very low for BRT.
That’s even lower-quality BRT than Rochedale busway station, and its unhappy relationship with the unreliable 555 Loganholme to Brisbane City. But at least it is partially assisted by the 545 and 576, whom terminate at Griffith University busway station.
TMR is saying its going to be a high-frequency bus corridor - but that’s about all they’ve said on their webpage - so it leaves the metrobus frequencies shrouded with ambiguity.
It’s quite unclear unfortunately. We’ve been told that it will ‘match’ the rail frequency at the very least: an extremely low bar.
I think the Government might be in for a rude surprise when they try to squeeze a train load of passengers onto a single LighTram service running at 15 minute frequencies…
Still can’t get over The Wave being called ‘seamless’ where passengers would have to change transport modes to continue their journey to Maroochydore.
For the frequency part, I’m pretty sure that the buses would run every 15min because that is the barest minimum for a decently frequent PT service. Under the assumption that guys who came up with this have never taken PT in their life, they probably did some quick Google search about the bare minimum of PT frequency, and that they assume that mode changes are the norm when using PT.
Worth noticing the government is getting roasted on facebook comments about stage 3 as well lol
I posted too. I liked a lot of the other posts.
Are these comments from local residents or keyboard worriers from elsewhere?
Not saying people from outside the area that frequent regularly can’t comment , as well as PT enthusiasts.
Both when you read all the comments.
It is good there is plenty of feedback, every citizen has a right to respond.
Not sure of the significance, but recent Government ads are highlighting, in part, Caloundra station.
Site investigations for Wave 3.
