Ahh, I read ‘plans’ as architectural plans. My bad.
I made a post earlier in this thread about QR’s Station Accessibility Upgrade Program. It lists which stations are completed, under construction, and being planned as part of the program.
Pretty bad that according to that page the only ones currently being planned are Albion and Wooloowin. In other words all of the other inaccessible stations including the ones I listed apparently have no plan for being made accessible.
Albion is a complete rebuild I believe.
We can keep.a list here just for reference on what hasnt got the modern acccessability updates yet?
But no word on planning for Wooloowin
The new Albion station project - New Albion Station Project | TMR Projects - was announced not long before the last election. As well as being an accessibility upgrade it makes other improvements which are designed to enable the planned TOD’s and general densification of the area which have already been enabled by the city plan, and finally it makes Albion station the primary northern interchange between rail sectors post CRR.
It was due to have the procurement process finalised in the middle of this year with contracts awarded. However there have been no announcements of any progress in this process.
I e-mailed the project team and approximately 3 weeks later received the below reply where they refer to the project as being in the planning phase. While this could just be a slow process where the department are dragging their heels I do wonder if there is a chance that the project is being reconsidered.
“Thank you for your email and interest in the New Albion Station (NAS) Project.
The New Albion Station project is currently in the planning phase, with the procurement process ongoing for a construction contract. The Department of Transport and Main Roads is yet to appoint contractors who will deliver the project. As such, construction timeframes are yet to be confirmed.
Once more information becomes available, the NAS Project team will be in touch to provide a more detailed update.
Kind regards
New Albion Station Project team”
If it wasn’t started, or ink dry on the contract, it’s likely being cancelled by this Gov…
I suspect any delay has more to do with arrangements to be made between the State and Geon (the developer of Albion Exchange). Albion needs to be redone irrespective of that project as it is going to be the main interchange between Sector 1 and 2 north of the CBD area.
Is there any chance that the new government might wish to change from Albion to Wooloowin or EJ as their preferred interchange station. Fully recognising that EJ in particular would probably not be a smart choice.
I’m not familiar with Woolowin, as I don’t think I’ve ever been on the platform there, only passed through, but EJ would be an absolute disaster unless they’re planning to spend megabucks to acquire land, straigthen the tracks, and rebuild the whole thing.
Unlikely since they’re about to put 16 townhouses here, basically putting a stop to any future redevelopment. They could have used it to move the platforms down towards the east and straightened them out and realigned the junction with less (not none) resumptions.
I suspect but cannot find any evidence that Geon dropped the Albion Exchange project as they have not said a word about the project since 2020.
However, the redevelopment of albion station is not on hold or being shelved so far because a look at the development application documents for 70 hudson road (a development that interests me very much for it would build a Woolies and lots of apartments there) reveals that one of the things the State asked to the developer is a few adjustments so the project is compliant with the redevelopment of Albion Station.
The Albion exchange project isn’t shelved. Geon has been refining plans and I think will still go ahead if a government sorts out the station.
Here’s an article about them putting stage 1 to the market (I assume selling to development partners) https://www.btrnews.au/geon-puts-stage-one-of-albion-exchange-btr-on-the-market/
Oh, thats good to know. (Although sad they dont have the funds
)
Please just move the station a bit down the road instead of restoring the old one.
I would much prefer to build a completely new terminus with 2 or 3 platforms to allow for Ipswich services to terminate under a more flexible track layout.
I see that it is more likely to terminate Ipswich/Rosewood services at Northgate instead of Shorncliffe, allowing for a regular 7.5min frequency from Northgate to Milton.
I really doubt that QR would see the need provide anything more than 10min frequencies all the way to Shorncliffe since it is one of the less-popular lines among the SEQ rail network.
I thought the Shorncliffe line was going to be paired with Springfield line, post CRR. Has this changed?
It’s going to be a kind of Ipswich/Rosewood-Caboolture/Sunshine Coast and Springfield Central-Redcliffe Peninsula-like situation. Like how trains from Nambour/Caboolture occasionally bound for Springfield Central and how trains from Kippa-Ring trains occasionally bound for Ipswich/Rosewood.
I’m pretty sure Sector 2 of the post-CRR network would operate like that.
