That looks interesting! I will be curious to see how this goes. I wonder what the largest vehicle size would be that could work on this kind of setup?
Is there anywhere in Brisbane or SEQ you could see this working? An initial thought that comes to mind is Darra to Indooroopilly via Centenary suburbs.
maybe Old Cleveland or Gympie Road
but definitely think a light rail from Hamilton Northshore to the city. with a branch going through Newstead/Tenerife then over a green bridge to Bulimba could work!
This seems to have all the disadvantages of buses and trams combined into one.
The only scenario I can see this being worthwhile is where you have existing tracks and light demand.
Sounds like another ‘gadgetbahn’.
Very Light Rail = Tracked Electric Minibus = Tram
Interesting how tracks are cut directly into the road without a separate foundation, this will restrict the vehicles’ weight and size.
It’s about the same size as the old FM400 trams that were operating in Brisbane.
Design the vehicles to look like this and you might be onto something.
Shuttle from UQ Lakes to Chancellors Place?
Too much demand
It carries 60 passengers? So its quicker and cheaper to build than light rail but slower and more expensive than just running a bus route which is all that it delivers?
That’s right. I think it will be a more comfortable ride than a bus as light rail generally is with clear stations. They believe uptake will be stronger because many people are happier to have a light rail journey than a bus journey.
i was talking about light rail in general
They had these tiny tram things (I suppose Very Light Rail) in Mshiereb Downtown in Doha.
There is some videos of it here. Not sure what the name of it was: Nana Sumarna on Instagram: "Welcome to Msheireb Downtown Doha – A Timeless Blend of Heritage & Innovation. #msheirebdowntowndoha #visitqatar #discoverqatar #exploreqatar #qatar #qatarairways #qatar2025 #qatarlife #qatarliving #qatarinstagram #qatarbloggers #qatari #doha #dohaqatar #dohalife #dohainstagram #dohablogger #travel #travelphotography #travelgram #instatravel #usa #uk #germany #france #italy #saudi #saudiarabia #kuwait #dubai"
Essentially this helped you get around the downtown. If you wanted to get around further or faster you would go to the underground stations instead.
