What are your thoughts?.
Perth does feeder bus for rail well. Good interchanges and frequent bus connections helped by the 15 minute or better train frequency. Network Integration rather than mode competition.
A lot can by learned from the level crossing removal project in greater Melbourne, particularly those jurisdictions that still have a significant number of LXs. Elevated rail has been shown to be a very sensible solution where it suits, but they also have done plenty of trenches, road over rail and closures.
I think the Sydney Metro (with all the extensions) is an exemplar for Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4) railway. GoA4 is where trains run fully automatically without any onboard staff. Melbourne is heading towards a metro at GoA4 level with their SRL. Brisbane, not to be confused with the Metro buses, might well start long term planning for a GoA4 metro.
Hear me out. We build the Mass Rapid Express!.
Not sure if other cities could learn much from Brisbane other than how not to do things…
I mean they could learn from our mistakes.
50c fares is something I guess
Brisbane doesn’t really have much of a bus driver shortage compared to most of the country because at least the council drivers wages are a fair bit higher than most. So i guess theres that.
Compared to my experiences down in Sydney at the start of December, the buses used up here in SEQ were much newer, cleaner and generally more comfortable than the ones I caught during my week down there. Some of the NSW buses looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in months - massive dirt build up around exit points and wheelchair spots, and large amounts of dust collecting along window sills - I quickly learnt not to rest my arm on the sills like I do on our buses.
This impression was reinforced when I spotted a dirty, fairly clapped out-looking ex-Clarks bus, still sporting the remnants of the old branding on it, serving on a local school route.
