Keep in mind that some headphones and earphones, like the Airpod Pros that I use, feature a Transparency Mode which is designed to allow the wearer to hear sounds from their surrounds.

Exactly how many people use this mode is another question or course, but I’m sure some do, otherwise they wouldn’t add it.
