Brisbane Metro

Every single time the metro has to stop at the intersection of the busway with gilchirst avenue the chime and announcement go off. It’s actually a bit ridiculuous that it does it every time

The announcements seem quite sensitive to location when the bus gets to UQ. It announces “now approaching UQ Lakes” near the station, then “now arriving at” as we enter the station. But often the bus loops through the station to get to the M2 stop, so it announces “the next station is UQ Lakes” about the time the bus pulls up at the stop.

I did notice yesterday morning that between going down into the Queen Street tunnel and getting to KGS, the chime went of 3 or so times. I hadn’t been paying attention, so the first one made a bit of a fool out of me, standing up when we were nowhere near the platform.

Yeah that always seems to happen. I also noticed that some vehicles have the audio turned off because of this. Hopefully with the new tunnel there will be 5G repeaters to help retain mobile signal throughout the new portion of the busway for both vehicles and passengers.

Just spotted a “Sorry Metro Full” at Mater Hill Outbound just now. Also the outbound platform was packed.

Makes sense: the uni semester has just started

Who would have thought the capacity of the ‘metros’ wouldn’t be adequate?

I wonder if a Metro service went missing or was delayed to result in that? I’ve seen Metros with a fair number of standees, but never close to being a ‘full’ bus.

Judging by the photos posted on Facebook, it looks like LighTram 9027 went on an excursion to the Brisbane Bus Museum for the unveiling of their newest restoration project, Cityxpress bus 958.

The fact that they compared a Metro to a vintage bus kinda shows that they admit that the Metro is a bus, I feel.

They should add that bus permanently to the Brisbane Bus Museum.

They should label it as “Quirks folly”.

To be fair, BCC have been referring to the Metro as a BRT system for a while now…

I noticed today that they turned on the scramble crossing at Quay St, William St and Vic Bridge. Pedestrians can now criss cross to Bne Sq.

I also noticed today that they have automated announcements at the platform screen doors at KGS alerting people not to board to reduce dwell times.

7 News briefly asked the Mayor about Bne Metro and if it will go to the airport. He said, “it will run via the airport tunnel”, but was abruptly cut off after that.

I reckon it’s still a long way off as BAC is yet reserve and build the infrastructure needed at the terminals…

They’re going to put metrobuses in the APL, a motorway tunnel for mixed traffic? Unless they are going to build dedicated right-of-way in the tunnel for the metrobuses, doesn’t that beat the whole purpose of classifying it as ‘Metro’? It does not have right-of-way in the tunnel as it has to mix with general car traffic.

True, I reckon it should have its own corridor.

Would that mean the APL would have to undergo some reconstruction to have a dedicated busway alongside the car tunnels? Or would they form a Sydney style busway by painting the rightmost lane as a busway to separate cars and ‘Metros’ from each other?

Highly doubt any reconstruction will happen using AirportLink is the way forward. Coat of paint seems right up governments of any/all kinds’ alley.

It’d be good to have access to the tunnel onramp/offramp to link with the busway though without sitting in ordinary traffic onto the ICB or Bowen Bridge Rd though. But even that isn’t necessarily easy given the number of existing bridges on the interchange there.
