As if… don’t think them toll operators are going to allow their precious tolled tunnels to become part of a public transport, or even spend a cent for reconstruction.
Government vehicles don’t pay tolls either, so they would not be happy about a massive increase in the number of buses using their tunnels. (Another reason they should not have been sold)
Sounds like we have two dud Airport extension proposals.
What does the red team opposition have to say about this?
They have previously supported and still support the Bne Metro concept and expansion. Well publicised before the last election.
We had a meeting with Bart Mellish a month or so ago and he said Labor supported a review into Metro expansion but didn’t agree with the Doomben line conversion. This was specifically made to be on the record for the media, but it seems that tidbit has been lost in the spectacle of it all.
Isn’t the Doomben line a major freight corridor into Pinkenba as well? There must be a tonne of facilities for freight trains; conversion to a busway would close down that essential freightway, resulting in freight trucks congesting the busway and the Pinkenba area.
They are slowly moving all rail freight movements to the Southside of the port (Manly side).
Knowing BCC, they intend to just send the Metro to the airport via tunnel without even painting anything. You guys are being too optimistic.
The best thing they could do instead is seeking collaboration with the State to can the AirTrain contract and just make people transfer from Metro to the Aitrain at Roma St tbh
What? Work collaboratively? Tell em your dreaming
A high-frequency bus used to stop here. Now a Metro drives past without stopping
Angela Rowe used to be able to catch a 66 bus every 10 to 15 minutes from Dutton Park.
But when Brisbane’s bus network was shaken up about a month ago, the 66 was replaced with the Metro route M2 – and now the new service drives straight past the busway platform, without stopping.
If Rowe wants to catch the high-frequency Metro, the Lord Mayor’s suggestion is to do that from across the river at The University of Queensland, with a walk across the Eleanor Schonell Bridge.
The article goes on to cover the LM explaining that Dutton Park station platforms are too short for Metro, and that they never said they would stop there.
Both are correct points. But I’m not very pleased about it. I remember asking the Brisbane Metro team in our early meetings with them. Their answer at the time I believe was that they wanted all the metro stations to have the full busway infrastructure (ie overbridges) and the patronage at Dutton park place didn’t justify the expense to upgrade it.
Not sure I agree with that considering I would wager it probably has a higher patronage than Greenslopes. Ultimately I’d like to see Dutton park place added to the stopping pattern
I don’t think the Brisbane Metro requires deducted bus lanes inside Airportlink. It’s a could have, not a must have.
Toll tunnels charge fees, which keep them relatively decongested, even in peak.
LighTram buses to Basel Airport and
Route 50 Basel Airport - runs on surface streets in a mix of bus lanes and ordinary roads.
Route 4 Nantes - runs on surface streets
That is quite a loss for the punters at Dutton Park. Can the platforms be extended?
There is still good service though with the 192 and other routes, maybe they don’t want to transfer.
There are a bunch services stopping there, with a same-platform change at Boggo Road for the M2 if you want to go into the city. That tiny little inconvenience for a few people doesn’t seem worth the expense of extending that stop to me.
would love to see the passenger numbers on the existing services
Yes, about a realistic as the usefulness of a pair of jousting sticks…
I am not dreaming, friends. I merely want us to wedge them using their own words. We can do it.
Don’t other buses not stop at DP?
Also I can argue people getting off at UQ Lakes walk the same distance to get to Chancellor’s Place bus stop, as DP is to UQ Lakes or Boggo Rd.
Yes, but they don’t go to the city.
I suppose it’s not the only stop on the network in this situation, or at least it hasn’t been; some of the stops along Sir Fred Schonell Drive are served only by the 402.
Henry Pike MP has called for a Metro extension to Capalaba (and beyond).
Commentary: Well, if it gets BRT built, that will be an improvement for the area.
