Brisbane Metro

Maybe some peak M1 runs starting from RBWH to cater for increased hospital and QUT demand?

This is desperately needed northbound between 06:30 to 07:00 and southbound from 2:45 to 3:45pm.

" … The unreleased document also appeared to confirm the full Metro expansion – previously announced as featuring 22 new stations and stops, south to Springwood, east to Capalaba, and north to Carseldine and the airport – would not be ready in time for the Games.

In 2024, the business case was due for completion in mid-2026 and the Metro expansion was to be operational by 2031.

However, the new unreleased report said the council would partner with the state government to “uplift bus priority” in the northern and eastern corridors, in line with the Queensland government’s 2032 Delivery Plan. … "

How is it that The Brisbane Times are always getting these “leaks”?

Maybe next time send them “leaks” BTQ’s way for a real analysis.

Why is the Story Bridge shaded differently from the other bridges on the map. :face_with_monocle:

Is there something special about this bridge, other than its not a green bridge. Then why green of all colours?

Anyway, proposing bridges at locations where flooding will block access to, at either sides, is by definition not a bridge.

So a metro business case that hasn’t been finished yet (allegedly) has already concluded it won’t be ready by 2032, and so another report (Race to Gold: update 2026) finds we have to wait until 2028 to tell us now in 2026, that nothing will be done from 2026 to 2032, but still are proposing this anyway!

The unsung hero(s) who leaked this report have all confirmed what we knew - if this is their only transport solution for the Olympics, then its curtains for blue team in 2028.

Sorry dawg, you asked for PT legacy but all we can give you is Bruce Highway upgrades in North Qld (this is tongue in cheek, the Feds can upgrade unsafe portions of Federal highway, the State Government has spun these as Olympics infrastructure due to their pork barrelling of games events ala Melbourne Comm games debacle).

Race to Gold!

More like a stumbling walk to participation certificate.

Brisbane Metro expansion: Lord mayor rules out outer-suburb extension without federal funding

…

Schrinner said plans outlined in the report to “uplift bus priority” in the northern and eastern corridors ahead of the Olympics, instead of the Metro expansion, would be a “very suboptimal outcome”.

“You’d see temporary solutions put in place that would then be taken out after the Olympics. We do not want that,” he said.

“We want a legacy of transport here for the people of Brisbane and south-east Queensland that lasts.”

…

On Wednesday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the lord mayor’s office said the 2026 Race to Gold paper was an advocacy document to other levels of government that proposed a range of potential projects and timelines that could be delivered before, during and after the 2032 Games if they were supported by other levels of government.

“It was never a fully funded plan,” she said.

Ya dreamin’ - Federal Government is cracking down on rorts, why would they give funding to the BCC now that they are coming off as grifters?

Is this the part where they supposed to have a ‘Plan B’?

Meanwhile, three blocks away from City Hall, at 1 William St (the giant lipstick building) a different ‘Plan B’ could also be needed, this time with billions of Federal Government funding at play.

Impressive that the “leaked” report even made to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Can either outlet just release the document now.

I think the Brisbane Times and SMH have the same owners.

Yeah Brisbane Times, SMH, The Age, WAtoday and AFR are owned by Nine Newspapers.

But you can’t use a BT subscription to access pieces on the SMH, Age or AFR websites even if the same piece (and comment stream) appears on the BT website. There are workarounds, just gets annoying.

Strange, I have no issues accessing SMH or The Age articles. I just login to each website with the same username and password. AFR is a different story.

I’m a BT subscriber as well, and my subscription works for the SMH and The Age - both Nine Newspapers and News Corp often cross-host their articles, so it probably just makes things easier for them.

The AFR and The Australian remain separate of course.

Yeh only the Canberra Times was separated after the 9 Deal.

Yeah, that sale annoyed me because the Canberra Times would sometimes pick up certain stories relating to Brisbane/Queensland that weren’t being reported on by either News Corp or even the Brisbane Times - even when both were Fairfax-papers.

Why are all of the NewsCorp outlets silent?

Didn’t they get a copy of the report?

On Tuesday, Adrian Schrinner played down the unreleased 33-page transport plan as an “advocacy document”.

It’s out there… somewhere…

A new multistorey high school in Brisbane’s inner north will have to be built around plans for an underground busway that was first proposed 20 years ago.

Brisbane Catholic Education has submitted a proposal to the state government to fast-track a development application for the Windsor Inner North Secondary School (WINSS), set to open in 2029.

The proposal reveals the new school will run along Roblane Street, a section of road still earmarked for tunnelling as part of a Future Northern Busway from Herston to Kedron — a project that dates back to 2006.

BCE has had to include an engineering report in its submission to the state government to prove how building the school will not impact the ability to progress the busway or the Airport Link tunnel.

BCE proposes the school will be home to five main buildings to be constructed across multiple stages on the old St Mary of the Cross primary school site.

The first stage, which is the subject of the current development application, includes two
buildings — one up to five levels the other up to four. Three more buildings up to five levels have also been noted for development in future stages.

Drawings show just how close four of the buildings will be to the proposed underground busway’s route, which would sit above the deeper Airport Link tunnel also under Roblane St.

“The WINSS buildings are expected to comply with the project requirements for future development and are not anticipated to impose any unmanageable constraints on the construction, operation or performance of the Future Northern Busway,” the report reads.

“Any potential interaction between the WINSS buildings and the Future Northern Busway is expected to be effectively managed through conventional tunnel design, construction and monitoring practices appropriate to the anticipated ground conditions.”

A concept design for the Future Northern Busway, dated March 16, 2007, was provided to BCE for their application.

It shows the project included two new busway stations, Albion Rd and Windsor, and a new pedestrian bridge over Lutwyche Rd, parallel to the existing rail bridge.

The state government’s 2032 Delivery Plan identified bus priority improvements along the northern suburbs corridor as a priority to ease congestion and improve transport options.

The corridor was also identified as part of Brisbane City Council’s Brisbane Metro Expansion business case, with new routes proposed to Carseldine and the Brisbane Airport.

Brisbane City Council Transport Chair Cr Andrew Wines said protecting future transport corridors like the Future Northern Busway was important to delivering the infrastructure needed to support the city’s growing population, like Brisbane Metro.

“Planning for future Brisbane Metro expansions is currently underway, including engagement with the State and Federal governments,” he said.

“We’ll continue working constructively with all levels of government to advance the next stages of Brisbane Metro, including north to Carseldine, to deliver a public transport network that serves Brisbane for decades to come.”

A Transport and Main Roads spokesman said the department would continue to protect a future busway corridor between Herston and Windsor.

Anyone come across the codeword “Future Northern Busway” before?
