Have we heard any plans for Betro to replace the door sensors with something that doesn’t stop working when it rains?
The Rochedale Metro operators have been re-trained a few months ago on how to override the door sensors if they malfunction due to rain. If some still don’t know how to override the door sensors, they’re in for a rude awakening as we’re going to be getting significant rain in the coming days..

Are there any updates regarding the next Metro to receive a name? 9010 is the most recent one to be named so it has been quite sometime.
I’m not excited for another Metro to be named… I just want a brand new livery, like a silver/gold combo. Something like the Logan Metro’s maroon livery would be brilliant.
Now I need to figure out how to make an entire brochure of different coloured Metro liveries…
red metro for redlands
blue metro for brisbane
maroon metro for logan
pink metro for northside
This may be a personal problem but god damn do they need to better arrange how the metro buses arrive and leave from UQ lakes
There are metro buses everywhere, departing, arriving, charging, half in service and half not.
I’ve been going back to UQ recently for some work and at this point if I need to go anywhere but RBWH I just take one of the other buses that all stop at Bowen hills because the metro departures from UQ are horrible and the other buses run normal routes where they drop, pick up and leave (am I an idiot)
I always wish first stage Brisbane Metro included some indicative study for how the busway would interact going through UQ, so then they could have rebuilt the station linear lead stop in the position it will needed in the future. With charging either side of the busway like Countess St just past the station.
But then again, it is easier (and cheaper) to add charging infrastructure to the sawtooth platform interchange then relocate the chargers to a optimal position (i.e. not in between Lakes and Chancellors) if the busway is extended.
Not your personal problem, it is my biggest gripe too. (un)organised chaos.
The other one is how the first carriage is the biggest, but because the rear one is closest from where people walk and they all have the illusion of being the same size (i.e. all have double doors) people seem to crowd the back part. It would be good to put markings on the floor to illustrate where the doors are + how many people each carriage holds for example.
I say this with love – UQ students have form with weird boarding quirks.
At Boggo Rd because the UQ bound stairs are at the head of the platform, you come off the stairs and straight onto the front door of the front bus.
So back when it was front-door-only, the queue would wrap around behind the stairs (not on the platform face) and the second, third buses would only get very lightly boarded - if they could even see the queue to stop.
Eight mile plains also has bizarre queueing around the stairs in the inbound direction. I thought it was the only one! As all the other stations on the SEB people basically just spread out along the platform wherever
The way the metros have to drop off passengers and often do a weird loop to get to a charger causes congestion but nothing in the way of passenger experience. The M2’s all leave either one of two stops and they are on the same side, and 95% of them leave the same stop. All the other routes from UQ lakes have assigned stops which i think are fairly well signed. If anything UQ lakes is one of the best bus stations in terms of its passenger flow and design.
I mean I’ve noticed that if the platform on the north side of the UQ loop is 2 metro buses long then sometimes a bus will arrive at the campus end, drop off passengers then sit to charge and once charged can either pick people up from that position, crawl forward to the bridge end of the platform and pick up from there or just drive off
Other times the bus using the charging station right in the middle will take over being the next bus to depart in which case it will sometimes move to the campus end, sometimes move to the bridge end or sometimes drive off from there
If there is supposed to be a set rhythm it doesn’t seem to work in practice as walking down to the loop from the campus I never have any idea which metro is the “next” one to leave
Little tid bit from an otherwise broader interview with Cr Murphy for Brisbane Times
If there was a pipe dream you had for infrastructure in the city, what would it be?
It’d be all of our Metro extensions delivered on time and on budget before 2032. We’ve seen the ability of just a large electric bus to make a massive difference in the quality of public transport in this city. And we know how to do it now, there’s really no R&D left to do.
Now it’s about rolling it out, and we know that it has a really strong benefit-cost ratio to the city. We could be talking about light rail and heavy rail for another 100 years, but we could get Metro done in the next six years if we’re really careful about putting together a strong case.
We’re going to need to work with the state government and our federal funding partners to make it happen. It’s going to require a bit of vision.

Seems like Council is actually going to take the Airport/Doomben line options seriously, and not as some miscalculated judgement done by an overzealous graphic designer

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised if Queensland Rail suddenly decommissions the Doomben line to make way for a Brisbane Metro corridor. Expect the unexpected I guess.
It all doesn’t matter.
They banked all on ‘metro’ and now they can’t deliver extensions. They can’t offer better bus services to the northside because its tied to the ‘metro’ extension.
Why don’t they try extending the metro with their “cost-neutral” bullshit, and give $1.8 billion to the entire Brisbane bus network instead.
Hear, hear!
There seems to be no appetite for network reviews, any kind of waste management (do we really need 12 bph along Gympie Rd at 10 pm?), and even incremental improvements of any kind seem out of reach.
Heck, I can’t even convince them to add an earlier 302 (one bus per day) to Fison Ave!
[For those unfamiliar, the Minister’s advice was to catch a later service, with capacity. They don’t seem to understand that most industrial workplaces start early].
With that kind of attitude, don’t expect any kind of improvement in northside bus services any time soon.
Is there even any plan or possibility to extend the busways through UQ and does UQ even want it
Like I get that the terminus at UQ is worth it regardless but was there any communication as to whether the uni is fine with a busway boring right through the centre of campus
They were initially opposed to any through running, a more recent masterplan is less opposed. I wouldn’t count on it any time soon.
They want it tunneled, but don’t want to pay for it
I dunno… reading between the lines on Cr Murphy’s statements it feels like the pre-2032 Metro extensions may be infrastructure-lite… Just the vibe I got from that…
