Brisbane desperately needs to rethink the bus led future public transport path that it is heading down!! Driverless systems are the future of public transport and all plans need to lead to that not against it.
Likely after the Olympics, as that mindset in Sydney NSW changed after their Olympics.
Anyway huge delays with the 60 again last Saturday due to traffic control on the Vic Bridge, overcrowding on the bus, and not enough services to meet demand for the West End Markets between 9am and 2pm. In addition there is no bus priority left turn into Montague Road from Mollison Street and Vice Versa from Montague to Mollison.
Buses always need to queue from Ann street to get into the Valley island to drop off and pick up passengers. This is due to cars coming out of Brunswick Street filling up the island and blocking buses getting in.
^^A line of buses waiting to get into the Valley Island.
This was last Saturday but an usual occurrence anytime of the day, even evenings. Buses need to wait while cars have the priority. This equates to frustrated passengers and drivers, which results in late running buses and cancellations and drivers taking their breaks at unallocated times. A huge chain reaction.
Just get rid of the Valley Island and covert it to a Bikeway. Two stops for the Valley one at Warner St the other at All Hallows.
Ann Street great opportunity to become a transit only street. Very few crossovers. Limit access to early/late hours of day to the handful that exist. Connect across to Adelaide Street.
The sheer volume of traffic down Ann Street would make that prohibitive. I think you could definitely put more bus lane in up the top end of the Valley near the Emporium but Ann St already can’t handle the volume at the moment in peak hour.
You are not going to fit 4 lanes of snarling traffic on Ann St into two on Wickham St without causing severely constipated traffic flow in peak hour. It is not feasible. Long term it would be better to put something like an underground metro to serve that area along with perhaps a dedicated bidirectional bike lane on Wickham St.
