Bus Services

Surprising new stop for route 578. This is great for tourists and locals alike Facebook

I had heard murmurs about this from the local councillor, who I understand had been pushing for it.

Buses are back running both ways up and down Adelaide Street to and from North Quay as I noticed today.

Just saw on Facebook via Michael Berkman’s post that route 415 now has a new PM school variation.

15:39 IB route 415 trip now starts from Indooroopilly High during school terms then follows many of the other district routes crossing the railway at Swann Rd before looping back to the Interchange: 3:19 pm Route 415 bus | Translink.

Also changes to district S714 and new S716.

Huge win for kids at Indro State High! 🚍🎉

Since 2023, I’ve been fighting for buses to ISHS for students who live in Taringa, Toowong and Bardon. We sent hundreds of emails to the decision makers and it worked! This week Translink have introduced some new bus services for students at Indro!

You can now catch:

🚍 S716: a NEW service from Toowong-St Lucia-ISHS

🚍 S714: extended route from Taringa-ISS-ISHS in the morning

🚍 415: extended route to pick up from ISHS in the afternoon

This is a huge community win! Fixing some of these black holes means hundreds of kids who previously couldn’t take public transport to ISHS, St Peters, Brigidine and Holy Family now can. It also means we can get cars off the road from the chaotic Lambert Rd precinct.

There’s plenty more that the State Government and Brisbane City Council can and should do to improve the public and active transport for students in this precinct, but these new bus services are a huge step in the right direction. If you’ve got any feedback on the new bus routes, please reach out to my team:

So the State Government are throwing in the buses, spares and depot facility for this?

“It is intended the new routes will be implemented progressively over the next three years, with an estimated 37 state-managed buses (including spares) and depot infrastructure allocated to deliver the services.”

Gee, it’d be real nice if the article could tell us what routes the tender is for.

Logan:
Whilst Stage 2 is still in the planning phase, proposed changes include:

  • Three new routes to service fast growing residential areas of Logan Reserve, Bahrs Scrub and Park Ridge, linking:
    • Browns Plains to Loganlea via Park Ridge Road
    • Logan Village to Loganlea via Chambers Flat Road
    • Holmview to Beenleigh via Bahrs Scrub
  • On Demand Transport for Yarrabilba benefiting around 12,400 residents by enabling them to connect to community services within the suburb, as well as to Route 587.
  • More frequent bus services in Park Ridge, Springwood, Loganholme, Woodridge, Loganlea and Browns Plains.

Ipswich:
Stage 2 – 2025/26:

While Stage 2 is still in the planning phase, proposed changes include:

  • Three new routes, servicing Deebing Heights, Ripley and Karalee, linking:
    • Yamanto and Ripley/White Rock,
    • Karalee and Ipswich via RiverLink, Bell Street, Ipswich Hospital and UniSQ, and
    • Ripley and the Ipswich CBD via UniSQ and Ipswich Hospital.
  • More services on route 515 between Brassall and Yamanto.
  • Additional coverage on routes 502, 512, 506 and 509 to respond to growth.
  • Increased span of hours on weekdays and weekends.
  • Additional trips added to bus timetables

Stage 3 – 2026/27:

Stage 3 is also still in the planning phase and is proposed to include:

  • A new route to respond to Spring Mountain and Springfield growth.
  • New bus connections between Ripley, Redbank Plains and Goodna.

I count 8 new routes in there, including the Yarrabilba ODT. I wonder where the 9th is.

Great. Now do this for the incumbent operators as well, and set up a proper collection of coherent contract regions for SEQ with one operator for each, like every other one of the big 5 cities has now already achieved or in Melbourne’s case is rolling out.

Maybe the further planning has identified that it’s better to use two routes to service some of those areas (Ripley, Redbank Plains and Goodna for example) than just the one?

The Gold Glider is coming soon

BCC Transport Planning again

I hope Eagle Farm gets new buses dedicated for the Gold CityGlider, instead of whatever B7RLE’s or B8RLE’s Optimi they have laying around repainted in a Gold CityGlider livery.

Are you referring to services being 1 week ago?

No public holiday services???

I strongly doubt BCC will be buying any new buses of its own from now on. There is no point. TMR is busy procuring Euro 6 diesels and will eventually procure a big batch of electrics of some kind which will be doled out as needed. The LNP running the state is highly unlikely to change the pre-October 2024 plans in a meaningful way here as diesel buses are simply going to become unavailable in coming years, and we need to be ready for that.

My own preference is that we get rid of all the dopey, gimmicky liveries and get-ups currently out there and have everything the same, Statewide, for all subsidised TMR services. It should not matter if the vehicle is a bus, coach, tram, suburban train, long-distance train or ferry. (You can make a concession for aircraft since the subsidised routes are provided entirely by Rex except for one Qantaslink (Sunstate) route, and both operators’ aircraft are not public assets.)

Keeping gunzels happy shouldn’t be TMR’s primary purpose. I say this as one myself.
