Im not from the aera but id say, there aslo needs to be some kind of connection from Morningside station/Bulimba Aera
This route could continue onto Griffith and Garden City/Mount Gravatt via boundary road
That could maybe work but im aslo suggesting a new route from Nortshore Hamilton to Northgate Station via Nudgee Road, and poteintally continuing to Chermside though Wavell Heights
It could also interchange with the M1 at Holland Park West, though it would have less interchange potential with other bus lines (many buses go to Mount Gravatt)
Like the 182 does
i think interchanges are key to improving public transport city wide
I came to a similar conclusion for a different route that merges the 307 & 322.
Id like to revamp the 326 & 327 to be more versatile and better service
326 to be Strathpine - Bracken Ridge - Sabdgate - Taigum - Carseldine connecting bus only areas of BR & Taigum to 3 key train stations hubs
327 to be Carseldine (Fitzgibbon) to DFO via Taigum, Geebung, Wavell, Nundah avoid competong with the train lines
So basicially merge/split the 2 and fix the dead weight issue of Toombul
This is what i suggest for Sandgate.
Increasing frequency’s for the 310, and 335. Too every 15/20 Minutes (or at least 30 minutes). But having them terminate at Toombul and Chermside respectively not going all the into the city.
Urgently create 1 or 2 routes to Strathpine, (Unsure about exact routes though).
And Reroute 691 for quicker access from Sandgate to Kippa Ring Station.
For the 326, it needs way better frequency’s and I’m thinking it should go to Aspley Hypermarket via Zilmere rather than making the turn to Toombull.
While it is probably uneconomical a cross city line from Ennogera To Sandgate or Somewhere on the Shorncliffe Line. Would seriously make cross city travel easier
335 can be easily split into 2 with Chermside to Sandgate via Aspley & Taigum wgile Chermside to RBWH via Stafford.
Aspley hypermarket does needs a good feed into somewhere si yeah
691 defs do alternate to 690 with 690 do via reddy jetty& scarby while 691 can direct link to Burpengary via Dbay & kippa station
I was also thinking maybe Having a bus from Toombul to Kippa Ring.
The 325 should also be rerouted and split into 2 Stopping At Taigum, Carsledine, Aspley and Then Stopping at Chermside. With the other section then going to the city via The Grange and Kelvin Grove
My take here, when the new bridge across Youngs Crossing Road opens the 673 should be extended to old petrie town, it’s a tourist attraction within moreton bay that has no public transport access or lack of good transport near it. Could also add a stop near Protheroe Rd to allow for easy driver changes between fellow thompson drivers if need be and access for residents who live down there.
This would be my proposal for local route configuration changes. I tried to maximise interchanges with rail, which I feel is lacking this side of the city, while minimising how windy the routes are.
General notes not shown on the map would be an additional stop for the 240 (and now 223 and 227) on Gordon parade to allow for a better and more reliable (less tight of a transfer) interchange with Manly station, and also an additional stop at Murarrie road to interchange with Murarrie station.
I would also recommend the off-peak frequency of the Cleveland line increased, to allow for interchanges from/to bus lines - this would especially be important for bus lines like the 220, where an interchange at Murarrie going outbound at, say, :18 (to align with trains arriving at Murarrie around :14) to arrive at Manly at around :40, allowing for a transfer from trains arriving at around :29 and to trains departing at around :44.
In the future, with the proposed Eastern Metro/busway, I imagine that routes like the 240 and 242 could interchange at Chandler, due to it being closer to Wakerley, though the buses terminating at Capalaba/Carindale would still be useful, as a lot of bus routes start/end there already
Also Hemmant currently has no Translink bus routes going to it (I believe there is a coach to/from Wynnum Plaza, though I’m not entirely sure of this myself), so I would propose the 223 route to serve Hemmant, and interchange with Hemmant station - it could go all the way to Cannon Hill Interchange, but there isn’t much housing development along the way (with the exception of Murarrie itself)
Tell me what you think! This is the first transit map I made. I based it off of the Translink printable maps they make, and used inkscape.
When I worked on this network and surrounds around 2006, myself and the consultant had the 223 and 224 starting from Lindum and terminating at Manly station, 223 went via the southern part and the 224 went via the northern part of Wynnum. 225 was to run from Wynnum to Carindale servicing Wynnum Plaza and Bognor Street. Route 215 and 220 remained the same.
I would caution using Murrarie station - that station is not properly accessible, wheelchair users would be forced to cross over the tracks which isn’t really safe. Cannon Hill is a better interchange location.
Hemmant really needs its own separate route tbh.
Route 240 does what it does as there was immense demand on Manly Road to access Capalaba and Wynnum Central, and it was originally designed to run with just 1 bus, so that the trip from Capalaba to Wynnum and Wynnum to Capalaba in under 30mins with 2-3mins of dwell time to allow the driver to prepare for the next trip after terminating. Route 240 follows the same route as the historical route National Bus Service did pre TransLink (minus some minor route differences in Wynnum Central itself).
I agree, it is a very useful route. Honestly the only change I would make to it would be to add a stop closer to Manly station - currently you have to hope the buses and trains are running on time and you kind of have to/from Manly to interchange (given the current timetables).
Oh just remembered, we also looked at extending the 227 to Wynnum Central (then known as the 222).
EDIT: Just thinking about it with my now dusty Network Planning hat on, I’d probably use the 213 to go via Murrarie station (or more ideally Cannon Hill station).
The service to Hemmant could use Ramsey Road and Brand St as a terminus, running it via Wynnum Plaza then continuing to Manly Station via Lota, which would straighten out the 223 or divert the 223 to Wynnum Central instead of Manly. 240 I would leave as it is.
I’m still of the view of keeping the 215 and 220 as they are, they are well established routes and I don’t really have much issue with their design too be honest. If anything, you could potentially use the kilometres taken up by the 215 and 220 terminate the 215 and 220 at Cannon Hill interchange while using those available kilometres into upgrading the 214 to a high frequency route along Richmond Road (I’d personally renumber the 215 to 214 and the 214 renumbered to 215).
Murrarie will eventually be upgraded, but honestly I think it needs to be moved east onto the straight track immediately after the level crossing which ideally would be removed somehow. I don’t think Murrarie is on the high priority list at this stage though. Sending the 213 through Murrarie would be reasonable though given the 213 is a peak only route and it would cover a bit more than what it does now which essentially duplicates the 215 bar a couple of streets in Belmont, and the 213 would only attract workers. It’s more than acceptable to tell those in the off peak to go via Cannon Hill interchange on the bus given the capacity would be there compared to peak.
This is a good point - currently Murarrie station is not very accessible. There is also a stop outside Cannon Hill that could definitely work (the one on Barrack Road). However, it is a good place location-wise - it’s on the way to the north/east from Cannon Hill Interchange, and would probably only add ~2-3 mins to the current route
Could Murarrie station be upgraded?
Would be useful, as it allows for a connection to the Cleveland line from Cannon Hill and along Wynnum/Manly Roads
I put it to go to the Manly area as there are shops there, and Wynnum Central has access via the train, which could be accessed from the 227 using Manly Station
Two questions
- Do feeder loop services like the 224 actually get used/ should be in place
- Does any have the patronage of all the different bus routes in Bcc?
Thanks
