Cross River Rail (CRR)

I think the introduction of the R sets is a long way off yet.

That’s what I thought.

I know the test set has been doing runs, but I’ve not heard anything about arrival or testing of the rest of the long distance fleet (nor the XPLORER/Endeavour replacements)… and I haven’t given up hope the premium seating can still be changed to some sort of lie-flat seat option!

(…But I’m not confident)

It’s CAF that we’re talking about. It’ll be an absolute mess.

Dual guage only from roma st to salisbury/cooparoo for acacia/Port of briasy branches respectively iirc

What im surious is, would brisbane xpt or its newer version will access brissy at other times due to increased capicity.

I would doubt there is a desire from Transport for New South Wales to have any more than the one service a day, given that Melbourne only has the two.

And I don’t think they’re buying a spare set to use for that purpose. There are the Casino and Grafton XPTs also, but the Grafton one has no connection to QLD and the Casino one has the connecting buses to Gold Coast and Brisbane. The turnaround time at Casino is way too short for the extra ~6hr hour extension for a second daily working.

18 months is a long time. Any idea why it’s taking so long?

So in the diagram on the information brochure there are three platforms and four tracks. Are there going to be extra tracks here?

The fourth track may be the standard gauge track?

Isn’t the standard gauge track on the other side?

Google maps satellite still has the dual on the East side of Clapham Yard, but it also doesn’t have the new tracks laid either, so not very helpful either way. Perhaps someone who commutes through Marooka can answer?

Why does Moorooka need a third platform if they are adding an extra track on the eastern side? Gold Coast trains can run on the outside tracks and Beenleigh trains on the inside tracks and use the existing platforms.

Maybe for bi directional peak and off peak all stops.

Probably has something to do with the large viaduct/flyover connecting to platform 3, and the page mentions the station will only open once all works are complete, which means even if platforms 1-2 are completed it’ll remain closed

The EIS drawings only had the 3 tracks through the station (and the DG on the other side of the yard), but I have to image that this is the perfect spot for a passing loop for Up Gold Coast trains to get past the all stoppers during counter peak periods when the other 2 tracks are heading Down.

Either that or it’s an error. :man_shrugging:t3:

Addit: there’s a 3D view on the website - it’s an error on the drawing for sure.

I reckon it’s more likely that the 3D view is the error rather than the drawing.

The NSW XPT train passes quite a distance from Moorooka station (which surprises me every time I’m on that train), so I guess that the standard gauge line goes on the other side of the yard.

Agreed. Only three tracks. There isn’t space for an additional track.

Diagram from Clapham stabling fact sheet.

No mention of full height/full length platforms in the upgrade features. Should we be nervous or has this just been missed ?
