Cross River Rail (CRR)

That’s what they were trying to achieve light and airy, reflecting the design of a Queenslander house.

Would have been cheaper to build an actual Queenslander house as the station entrance

Honestly its not something people would think of or care too much about.

Doesn’t fit with the transit theme.

All of the station buildings are insanely overbuilt imo. Have been to plenty of metro / subway stations in Asia and plenty have fairly discreet entrances. I don’t understand the obsession with enormous station buildings, aside from architects and builders taking home a sweet paycheck

FWIW, I reckon the stations from Dutton Park to Salisbury are a pretty good scale.

Going once, going twice, and sold for $1.6 Million dollars to that charming gentleman in the white suit.

Just noticed the rebuild of Moorooka Station has the Ipswich Road traffic lights/pedestrian crossing being moved from directly outside the station entrance to 100m further north.

Any ideas why this change? Is it because of space constraints around the entrance?

I think the current pedestrian crossing location is ideal. If you want to access the high frequency 100 bus route (outbound) from the train station, you’ll have an extra 200 m walk added to your transfer.

Hope Island works update makes it sound like it’s going to open soon - predicting an April opening

I noticed yesterday line markings have been completed for the parking and internal station roads! Hopefully will open soon.

They wanted a homage to the airy Qlder with the scale of a Grand Central, but it would have also been dope if Brisbane Live was still going to be there. Instead you’re sort of left with nothing but admiring some buses between the views and a pretty gross car-brained street scape. I mean, having used Central for years and now Roma Street, I can’t complain about a lot of airy space, given Central station feels and smells like an arm pit.

I caught the train to Nundah on Sunday and noticed they have laid tracks just before Albion including the new bridge Yet, they still have connect and merge the tracks into main line.

I was coincidentally looking through the calender as well on Sunday Eve and noticed the third party wording. Yet, when you go into the link it’s states still to be confirmed.

^^Forward dates not the ones coming up in the next few months

I’m honestly a fan of major stations being grand and architecturally impressive. Obviously increases the cost, but I think it’s important that the PT environment is pleasant and makes you want to be there, rather than being forced to scurry like rats/second-rate citizens and hide from the driving public. I certainly know I don’t look forward to taking the train when I know my station is a desolate, value-engineered platform with a too-small shelter.

As an example abroad, look at the modern incarnations of Grand Central and Penn Station in New York - people love one and hate the other for a reason!

That’s true, but not every station needs to be like that. I quite like my local station being a modest couple of platforms largely hidden by trees and houses.

I like my local stations to be small and not obtrusive but with the necessary facilities like PIDs et cetera

I’m going to split the difference - I think the prominent station entrance at Roma Street is very much warranted, given that Roma Street is our main “Grand Central” Station. I feel it needs to be highly visible in the environment as part of that function.

Albert Street’s main entrance adjacent to Mary Street might be a little over the top with its massive cantilevered awning - it probably could have served its function perfectly adequately using an appropriately scaled version of the more subtle northern entrance.

Agreed, certainly not appropriate for every local station to be a massive monument

I believe the big awning at Albert Street captures rain water possibly for the cooling towers?

Tbh Boggo road is the design that bothers me the most. Enormous, unnecessary canopy building thing that doesn’t even extend to the other platforms.
