Cross River Rail (CRR)

I figure that QR just has to take whatever date is given to them by DTMR or CRRDA.

It’s the job of the media to scrutinise and provide context.

Here’s some pictures from my very brief (like 2 minutes) stop at Exhibition on the first train. Off to work for me now

Thanks for posting those! I was hoping someone would since it’s a bit hard for me to get across from New Zealand to see it…

The platforms are very wide. Excellent for when events are on!

What are your initial thoughts for how it would handle crowds from a stadium at Victoria Park?

Given the distance stadium goers would have to walk, I think it would be able to sufficiently handle the PAX given a high enough frequency.

Are you able to exit the station at the moment without going to the event?

Not sure, sorry. I didnt have a chance to go down into the concourse.

I’ve heard that the platform can hold 1200 people comfortably. Considering thats a little over a trains worth of people, I imagine the platform can hold more than that, however perhaps they will limit it to around 1200 people for safety.

It’s surprising that it doesnt have platform screen doors / gates though. I’d like to see them retrofitted prior to the olympics if it is going to be the main station serving Vic Park.

I imagine PSDs were not implemented at Exhibition to allow non QTMP/NGR trains to use the station (ie steam specials for Ekka, etc)

I agree, and given that there are already numerous comments across the station’s social media posts asking if the Ekka Steam Trains will be back this year (with “watch this space” replies from QR), it’s a valid reason IMO.

I will reupload with a different codec when I get the chance :+1:

Apparently they are going to extend the platform to its full length before the games.

I really don’t understand that CRR won’t be open until 2029. Apart from the stations that are taking shape, the only bit remaining is to lay some southbound CRR track at Mayne and do some rearranging of the tracks south of Albion. I don’t really know what else they need to do in 4 more year?

Must be due to the signalling rollout as well as rolling stock and capacity improvements on the Gold coast line that’s holding it up.
