Thanks I was just surprised to walk into brand new station and there was no rail for platform 1.
Iâm seeing posts on Reddit that Exhibition station wonât be opening for special events next week as originally planned. Does anybody know if this is confirmed, and if not whatâs the reason?
I wouldnât give it too much weight. The same user who âleakedâ that info apparently also has their hands on the voice announcements for the 3 new Gold Coast Line stations from an âanonymous sourceâ - which to me sound like they could be AI generated.
Happy to be wrong, but Iâd love to see a more reputable source backing it up.
The news about Exhibition Station being open came from the Queensland Caravan & Camping Supershow website. That organisation still shows that it will be open on their website:
âAVOID THE TRAFFIC & PARKING HASSLES! BUY YOUR TICKETS ONLINE AND TRAVEL FREE TO/FROM BRISBANE SHOWGROUNDS from any station on the Queensland Rail Citytrain Network including north from Gympie, west from Rosewood, south from Varsity Lakes and all Brisbane Stations.â
Also, the venue map of the event below also indicates Exhibition Station as the location of Arrivals & Departures. If there was a change to this, I would expect a big new blast for it on the website and a quick change or disclaimer on the map.
I think the reddit post may be wrong.
Iâve been told that QR staff had a station opening event last week. It has definitely been handed over to QR.
Exhibition Station opening has been reported this morning by the Courier Mail.
Yeah, platform 1 is still not configured at the Ekka Station therefore one way loop only I guess.
Donât see any point in running bi-directionally even if that is possible. If you want a service through Central and Fortitude Valley, that requires the Hole in the Wall at Bowen Hills and that only allows for an anti-clockwise service. Once CRR is open, thereâs no need for this service to run at all since there should be (assuming competent timetabling) gaps of no more than 10 minutes between trains in both directions, given Caboolture/SC and Kippa-Ring services at 15 minute intervals each but potentially not at even 7.5 minute intervals.
Pathetic journalism by ABC to report the 2029 date without any context or history. The Brisbane Times article covers it well.
It still seems unbelievable to me to have completed so much already and yet still be years away from opening.
It sounds like trains will just do the usual surface loop from Roma Street.
A proper opening would require trains to run via CRR, which isnât operational at the moment.
Or, Translink would have to put on a special loop train service for just that 1 station. Thatâs a lot of resources (2 staff, 1000 pax train) twice an hour or four times per hour to serve just 1 station.
Isnât that obvious? A loop service would not be possible via CRR - if youâre underground at Roma St you canât surface to go via CentralâŚ
Itâs only open for events.
Unfortunately, the Queensland Rail Facebook page are also using the Governmentâs 2029 claim in the comments of their post on the station opening.
As well as Brisbane Times social media post above.
