$1bn light rail extension to Harbour Town emerges from secret talks | Gold Coast Bulletin
Guts of this is there is scuttlebutt about GCUH to Biggera Waters being potentially “brought forward”, but nothing concrete.
There are a lot of calls in the comments for Light Rail between Nerang Station and Broadbeach South, but I remain unconvinced that LR is the right mode for that corridor…
I reckon at the moment some form of BRT for those East-West connections would be adequate.
Why Biggera Waters all the sudden?
Are there any Olympic venues at Harbour Town?
All the sudden buses don’t seem to exist in the GC?
I don’t think its right either, but I can see why the public does. It’s such a clear shot between the station and the coast, and there’s nothing there to slow down for so the trip would be fast. Plus the stadium is there and we all like the stadium but hate the delays in leaving.
I don’t think people generally appreciate how none of those things actually drive patronage to a meaningful level for a day to day service compared to a route that has places to go along the way.
Not at Harbour Town, but the Hockey isn’t far away on Musgrave Avenue. So a 900m to 1km walk from a station on the intersection of Olsen and Musgrave.
It gives them an ability to extend the network without betraying the dummies south of Tallie Creek. I don’t have any issue with it, especially if it goes further north towards Lae Dr / Runaway Bay shops (but I doubt it).
G:link punctuality is recorded here G:et up to date | Gold Coast Light Rail Latest News | News
Punctuality is measuring that the trams are arriving at stations at the advertised times.
No where does it give the actual window for being on time. e.g. within a minute.
Does anyone know what the on time window is for the trams?
Can’t remember but I believe it is much more stringent than the other modes.
Gold Coast BRT Bus Plan to be announced No Cookies | Gold Coast Bulletin
Odd thing is that I don’t recall seeing any public consultation.
The state government is finalising plans for metro-style buses to replace the dumped light rail Stage 4, with east-west routes extending all the way to central Nerang.
The LRT corridor is being preserved, so it’s an indefinite delay rather than a cancelation.
With the added bonus of wasting money on buses. As well as the cost increases of interrupting construction.
This is a terrible, shortsighted decision.
The Light rail is literally at Burleigh. And then you have the Gold Coast Rail line at Varsity Lakes. Whilst it would cost more, it would certainly be much better value for money if we revived those two extensions instead of continuing our weird obsession with fancy buses and slapping them with Metro stickers.
They are pretty much using these throughout Europe and the ride and feel when I was on them was pretty good.
The buses are generally faster yet longer newer trams do have more capacity.
I’m sure the buses can be redeployed elsewhere once GCLR4 is built, e.g. Nerang to Broadbeach, or Helensvale to Harbour Town.
Metro-style buses!
Apparently we’ve had them for decades we just didn’t know it…
Just order some electric artics from Volgren at Eagle Farm and call it a day…
