To say I am disappointed is an understatement.
Itâs a terrible decision but completely unsurprising once Jarrod Bleije got anywhere near it.
Iâll write to federal members about this.
If theyâre gonna ask for Commonwealth funding for âmetrosâ then theyâll have to make a horribly good case for it or theyâll get nowhere.
Very disappointing. Tbh I hope they donât try a BRT thing. Just leave the corridor untouched so it could be done in the future.
I would be ok with this as an outcome if they focused on heavy rail extension instead, but it doesnât look like thereâs much progress on that front either
I wrote somewhere here in the forum months ago that obviously they would scrap it as team blue hates rail and Bleije more so.
I also do not have any energy left to get cranky on their stupid decisions, tbh. Hopefully stage 3 will be a success and more than proof that stage 4 should be built once these bozos inevitably lose power.
Imagine having a world-leading transport link that has exceeded expectations and is the envy of cities everywhere, and then saying ânope, we donât want any more of that hereâ.
I am SO READY to take a holiday for two months after seeing this.
Olympic legacy my ass.
*ââUnlike Labor who treated the community with disdain by withholding details on property resumptions and carpark lossesâŚâ*
Would the construction of GCLR stage 4 result in a significant resumption of houses? Wouldnât allocating space for the LR be done through curb work on the SR2? The shoulders and the median island along the SR2 would leave enough space for a light rail line.
Again with the car-brained concern of âcarpark lossesâ, why wonât the locals understand that it would be a lot more convenient to take the tram directly to their destination along the SR2, rather than rove around in their car, looking for a place to park? If finding a place to park is so difficult, then why bother with taking the car in the first place when a more convenient mode of transport is in place? With more people taking the tram, there will be less cars on the SR2, reducing the demand for parking. Such a massive cliche about car-dependency but still stands to this day.
So disappointed by that⌠all theyâre doing right now is cancelling rail projects and replacing them with buses.
Leave it untouched donât put in a new metro service, it will ruin the community ever getting light rail.
Well, thatâs what happens with the LNP, as they are by and large purely by ideology an anti-PT party, and if they are forced into projects they will find somehow to do it as cheaply as possible while ensuring that only their business mates get the contracts. Iâm sure that if they came into power pre CRR being built, they wouldâve canned the project and resurrected the BAT. In this case too, Iâm sure itâs because they want to shore up support from the small group of the anti-LRT group in the Palm Beach area, so theyâve got votes for them next election.
In other words, Iâm not surprised.
Queensland government dumps Gold Coast light rail stage four
But Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce president, Zac Revere, said scrapping stage four âis short-sighted and will go down as one of this governmentâs greatest failuresâ.
âIt is a lasting setback for our city,â he said.
"Right now, residents stuck in traffic across our city should be asking, âWhat exactly is the plan to ease congestion around my home?â
âToday, we are one step further away from an answer and our state government has no answers.â
On one hand Iâm not surprised after they replaced Heavy Rail with BRT on the Sunshine Coast, on the other hand Iâm still a bit shocked and deeply disappointed to see the Gold Coast get the same treatment.
As I said when the DSCL changes were announced up North, introducing a mode change when itâs not needed (especially for something transporting people likely to be carrying luggage) is exceptionally stupid and short sighted. It adds travel time, stress and inconvenience to what would have been a nice single seat journey.
What a shame
Input would be fab. We would like to get this out asap.
Itâll happen, just later and more expensive than it should have been (a la CRR).
I think itâs even money at the moment whether they are a one term government. Donât underestimate how many people will be thoroughly pissed off about this.
Disappointing, We should also push for the heavy rail to OOL now. Hopefully the delivery of that will.get accelerated. In the MR we should state what are the alternatives. One being an accelerated delivery of HR from Varsity lakes to the border.
If they arenât going to go with light rail, they are not going to go with heavy rail.
Nothing useful will happen on either front until they leave office.
It makes you wonder if Volgren is sweet talking the blue team on thisâŚ
The project is simply following the classic Queensland Government planning pathway.
The new government has a review then cancels the prior administrationâs project. There might be a name change too.
Light Rail will probably be built to Coolangatta, but itâs been set back another 10 years now as a guess and be even more expensive to deliver when restarted.
It makes me even more cranky when I think that with the imminent opening of stage 3, stage 4 could and should be ready by the olympics and now what we will get is people arriving in 2032 at GC and having their very convenient journey on a tram cut short by a ridiculous bus that most likely mixes with traffic.
The olympic legacy hahaha
