On the network

Pretty sure it’s 130, but your point remains. EMUs, and SMU200/220s should NEVER be scheduled on the Gold Coast line.

Chronic cancellation of the short running Airport trains again. Network reliability is a problem.

I don’t think QR really care sadly. There should be a mandate that non IMU services on the GCL and SCL are a last resort to only be used if no other rollingstock is available, as the lack of bathrooms is a serious problem.

The reason I know that’s not already the case is because a surprising amount of weekend Nambour services are SMU200/220s despite there being plenty of stabled NGRs at Caboolture and Mayne. I don’t know if they’re rostered like that, but it’s happened enough that I know it’s not a last resort thing, it’s probably just a convenient option.

The lower speed is also an issue though!

If I usually see an unusually high amount of SMU260 and 160/260 hybrids on BDVL and VLBD over the weekends, it usually means a 6-car 220 (or two) has found its way on NAIP and IPNA.

The lower speed indeed is a issue, it may be a issue north of Caboolture (late arrival into NBR) due to the rostered high speed between CAB and Beerburrum and between Glasshouse and L’sborough, however it’s not much of an issue returning back due to the turn-around time and the rostered crossings at Glasshouse Mtns (and/or other locations with Traveltrain).

Okay so quick question.

For what kind of train is the Gold Coast line timetabled for?

The NGRs obviously manage to glide through as speed south of Beenleigh with Swiss precision, but occasionally you will see a pair of IMU16x or a mix of IMU16x + SMU26x doing runs and also managing to keep pace with relative ease as well, even though the former sets have a slightly higher top speed.

What gives?

The Gold Coast line is rostered for the 140km/h speed of the original IMU100 (and IMU120s). The SMU260/IMU160 has a programmed top speed of 130km/h however has faster acceleration than the 100/120/NGRs to compensate for the lower top speed.

A typical Saturday in Brisbane: dozens of bus routes delayed or cancelled due to congestion. It is high time bus priority on major roads was on weekends, too.

Check the X feed. It’s a flaming joke!

Just to add to the above, the 555 I’m on is currently travelling via Shailer Rd/Daisy Hill Rd/Chatswood Rd northbound, due to M1 congestion.

SEB extension to Loganholme can’t come soon enough.

4 posts were split to a new topic: Sunshine Coas Line’s Frequency & Span of Hours

Maybe there’s an automatic way to do this, but by manually counting I got to 82 bus services cancelled due to congestion yetserday (7/6).

Numerous bus cancellations around the network this morning, seems mostly due to mechanical issues this time.

Sunshine Coast seems over-represented in this.

There’s still some congestion as well, though, e.g.

Not nearly as severe as services being cancelled, but over the weekend I caught a 545 for the first time in years, and was greeted by this on the bus screen. I didn’t know I had transported to Northern Ireland pre-2021!

That must be where all the resources go in TransLink - time travel…

Anyone know why there are no “Quiet Carriage” signs on NGRs? Are there plans to install any?

I’ve been wondering this too!

I would really appreciate having NGRs with gangway doors honestly to separate noise from each carriage. Not having them is just bad.

And speaking of quiet carriages: wouldn’t it be a better idea to have them on the first and sixth cars? It will allow for a quieter environment for drivers and guards as well.

The NGRs do have gangway doors, they’re just usually always open. Not sure why. I think IMU160s and SMU260s are usually the same.

They must be left over screens or hand me downs. Aka gott them on the cheap but probably charged the government the market price :joy:
