On the network

It might be controversial in Australia but as someone who’s extensively used rail networks in Europe, the paid bathrooms at their train stations are beautiful.

$1 (I think it’s $1.50 now though) to access clean, well maintained facilities was a luxury we happily paid for as the money went towards employing the full time cleaner stationed outside. They were almost always spotless.

Would it work here? Would we tolerate it? No idea. By far the best public transport bathrooms we’ve ever used though.

You wouldn’t catch me paying $1 to access the toilets at KGS-City Hall station :sob:

But all things aside, I wholeheartedly am in favour of such a policy.

It would be incredibly ironic to see that the fare for accessing a toilet is the same as a return trip to the Gold Coast from Brisbane.

Sounds like we have an equivalent of Melbourne’s Montague St bridge in Wynnum. Another truck collided with a bridge there.

Which of the two bridges is the one that trucks often collide with?

The bottom one seems to be lower enough that most people realise not to try. You feel like you’re going to hit even in a regular car.

Are there any warnings when approaching the bridge? If so, would the drivers in Wynnum be smart enough to acknowledge the warnings and that the bridge is very low?

I’d need to check if these Google photos from May 2024 are still accurate:

What’s interesting is that it seems before the protection beams were installed there was far more prominent warnings - see this from July 2015

The protection beams are located very close to the bridge so you see in videos and photos that trucks often strike it and momentum carries them under the bridge. It doesn’t cause major damage but means rail services are still suspended.

There must be some other warnings on other roads that lead to the low bridge.

Something major has happened at the intersection of mains and klumpp road. Alot of flashing lights and clearly no buses through a very major part of the network. Hopefully cleared before the true peak starts.

Only 5 minutes ago I was wondering why there was a rogue 140 at garden city lower level and this explains it.

Decided to press on of the ‘Timetable Next Service’ buttons at Queen Street bus station. I was expecting a short, quite speaker that announces the next departing service (like they do with trains).

Got jump scared by the very loud speaker that was announcing the next departing bus service above. It kept repeating the same announcement for a minute, and it just echoed through the entire busway platform.

Looks like some kind of major fare evasion operation going on at Broadbeach South this afternoon. I counted 2 G-Link officers, 5 TL SNOs and 4 police (I think, some were from a distance), and the TL ones seemed to be checking people as they left buses. Didn’t know this was a usual operational method, but I guess it’s easier than being on every bus.

Yeah they usually appear in masse on Thursdays and Fridays alongside QPS.

This is interesting because Kinetic and G:Link employ their own teams of network officers (with Kinetic and G:Link branded uniforms). I wonder why TL network officers are needed?

So there is a sign. But its coloured in a way that makes it seem like a petty special-vehicle sign that no-one really pays attention to (even the drivers of the special vehicles).

I’m really conflicted on whether I want to have elevated rail from Wynnum North to Manly or to keep the low bridge for the meme value (like how Melbourne has the iconic Montague St bridge).

Edit: or how about just add a strong clearance gate further out from the bridge. So in case a truck collides with the gate, it would be far enough from the rail bridge to not cause a rail disruption.
