Just transported some pax from Goodna to Darra via horseless carriage.
Plenty of pax waiting for the train at Darra on platform 2/3.

Good work by QR. Affected train was moved into siding at Dinmore to clear the road, and down trains are now running again.

It does seem like that they do seem to try to manage issues well, although still many things to work through.

There seems to have been a lot of issues this week! Is that normal or is it unusually high this week?

Had their fare share of disruptions due to train faults of late, that is for sure. Really fortunate this morning that the faulty train was relatively close to Dinmore and could be moved to the siding there (it is a cattle yard). The thought that they might do this did cross my mind initially but I was not overly confident they would. Good action to do it as it re-opened up the down line. Otherwise would have been a much bigger issue than it was.

Correct, there’s weight and speed restrictions for loco-hauled services along the Albert bridge. From memory, if you walk along the pedestrian bridge from the Indooroopilly side there’s also a quite prominent ā€˜Electric locos 40km/hr’ sign. I don’t have it on me right now but I recall a 90’s-era QR operating procedures book posted online that essentially said most freights could cross the bridge, but needed to run at a very slow speed and a few heavier classes of loco that were either banned or required special permission.

Anyone know what QR was up to at the Anson Road Bridge today on the Cleveland line?
Saw a QR car parked up there and a couple guys in Hi-Vis.

Turns out the reason behind the dirty NGRs is that the contract between TMR and Bombardier (now Alstom) for NGR maintenance is inclusive of the cleaning. QR has no part in the cleaning of NGRs (including graffiti) which is why the QR fleet is noticeably kept to a much higher standard of cleanliness than the NGRs (except for the graffiti on windows in all fairness to Alstom).

Essentially, for the NGRs to be cleaned, they must go to Wulkuraka. Doesn’t matter if it’s just a general wash or graffiti removal. They do not use the QR wash at Normanby or the graffiti shed at Mayne Yard North.

To be quite frank, I think it’s absurd. Maintenance I can kind of understand… but to have Alstom responsible for the cleaning is crazy. How could that possibly provide more value for money than having QR clean them? They have the services to do so already in a much more convenient location for rollingstock resource management.

Is this something we can expect for the QTMP fleet as well? I know the comms for the Ormeau facility talk about other trains using the stabling component, but if all cleaning needs to happen there that’s also a problem.

It’ll be on my agenda for future meetings with Government/TMR figures

Bit late in showing this, but how did a window of a refurbed 60set end up in this state?

(IMU172 trailing car)

On the topic of cleanliness: QR could, I don’t know, clean the trains at their terminal stations before starting a new run.

Some trains spend a good amount of time waiting for their upcoming departure just doing nothing. That time could be used more effectively by doing a quick rubbish removal across the train while checking for more complex problems to be solved at the depot.

About the difference between NGRs and other QR stock: I actually find the NGRs to be just better in pretty much every way, particularly with the windows or the aircon. I’ve found SMUs with absolutely awful (or non working!) HVAC systems multiple times…

Isn’t the proposed Barrambin station on the site of the Normanby train wash?

My understanding is it’s all still just speculation, but it would make sense to be at that location. I’m unclear if you would be able to build the station next to the train wash, but my preference is to move the train wash so we can get a higher capacity station.

My thinking is that a Barrambin station there would almost certainly require the use of the train wash site.

Yesterday, I was on the G:Link going from Parkwood to the Coast, and as shown in the service updates provided by TransLink, after 12pm the tram was closed between Helensvale and the university hospital (GCUH), and so I transferred to a light rail replacement bus. It was also shown on the tram, with the final station being at GCUH.

Service update: Helensvale to Gold Coast University - weekday tram closures | Translink

The thing is, the timetable didn’t show (and, actually is still not showing) any tram closure between GCUH and Helensvale, so I had to figure the transfer out at the station (which, actually, the staff there were very helpful)

I was wondering why the timetable hasn’t been changed to reflect the closures. Also if anyone here is travelling down there during this week watch out for the tram closures

DP63 bound for Brisbane City and Airport delayed up to 26 minutes because of a police incident at Helensvale, apparently.

UPDATE: RUNNING EXPRESS NON-STOP FROM BEENLEIGH TO ROMA STREET.

What time does it even save if it only skips 6 stations on a line with around 50 of these?

Looking at the timestamps of the videos I recorded of us skipping all of the stations… Enough to make for a 10 minute advantage.

What’s more interesting is that QR decided to ā€œconvertā€ run DP63 into one of the short services starting at Roma Street so that our train could take over the next service (DP65) and still be relatively on time (about 3 minutes down) to keep everything running.

This only makes me wonder even more about the feasibility of a superexpress service from the GC to Boggo.
