Passenger Information Screens (PIDs)

I noticed they may have installed a new real time epaper timetable at Milton Road Suncorp Stadium stop 4 outbound, when going past yesterday.

I’ll try and get a photo as it wasn’t the everyday yellow timetable on the pole as the rest. It looked more like the ones that are used on the station replacement stops on the southside.

Found this on Reddit? Is this what you say @Verbatim9?

Here’s the source on r/brisbane.

Ooh, I like these! I just hope they’re fairly durable, given the abuse that some stop signage is subjected to.

They look like they are E-Ink, so they should be reasonably durable if the encasing is relatively water tight. As for vandalism, well hopefully not. There’s more appealing things for vandals to target hopefully.

I also noticed one of these installed at Forest Lake Shops the other day, for the stop on the High School side of the road. My immediate thought was also about how durable it would be in the face of vandalism, given how quickly things at that stop get damaged.

Something I only noticed this morning (despite walking past it every morning since it appeared a few months ago), the printed timetable for the platform at Loganholme that the peak hour express buses use, looks very different from the standard printed timetables. It looks like it has been designed to be displayed on an E Paper display.

I know this post is kinda useless without a photo - I’ll take one tomorrow.

They are popping up all around the city. There are some pics a few posts back. Anymore pics or a short video is always appreciated.

Spotted at the bus stop outside of Eagle Junction Station.

Curiously the stop across the road has had the post replaced with a new one with space for a solar panel, but it hasn’t had the new PID installed.

Can anyone find any public information about these PIDs? I may try and get some more information from Translink regarding where they are being installed and if they are permanent or a trial.

Update: found this video on Translinks facebook page from way back in 2020.

The manufacturer: ePAPER BUS STOPS — Mercury Innovation

I actually got an email from them in 2022 stating that they were rolling them out as a result from a successful trial.

Although they ended up rolling out the NFC tags at stops first.

I haven’t seen anything online since so it closed to secrecy where they are placed :joy:

There was something I read somewhere a few months back that there was funding for about 300 installations.

A good stop for those new E-paper displays is at Nissan arena. There is currently no real time displays there and they could be handy for game days as wel as being a park n ride.

Are there any other stops except in the CBD that people think that should have new E-paper real time stops.

We can put in a submission to Translink with a potential list.

They should be focusing on the busiest stops. Outside Brisbane that is generally going to be at interchanges and along the busier routes (eg 515, 600, any of the Gold Coast high frequency stops), focusing on the stops at major locations where there isn’t already some form of real-time information (eg Harbour Town, The Pines). Some locations already do have this (eg Maroochydore, Southport, Broadbeach South etc). Within Brisbane I would be saying the city surface stops that are not just peak hour stops, and along BUZ routes, but not where there is already a real-time display.
