Station Closures?

So is the Crisafulli Government seriously considering closing Holmview, Bindha, Thagoona & Traveston.

Instead of closing Holmview, it should be getting the Dakabin upgrade Treatment

Bindha too close to banyo and holmview will be once beenleigh moved closer

Thagoona needs more development

And traveston, well duh… Past govt tried to close that like 15 years ago but failed …

Stay away from SEQ’s iconic station.
Secondly, Gympie region predicted to grow (see rumoured T7 line) so argue the station will see use in future

I do not endorse the station closures personally but in all fairness I can see it being on the chopping block sadly along with all these other stations. Will be rioting on the streets if it does happen though

I’ve left Bindha off at least one fantasy map and nobody’s called me on it :stuck_out_tongue: I could see a case for a temporary closure of Bindha until the area around it gets urban-renewaled, though.

I think Thagoona village has been proposed for townhouses recently?

The Holmview closure is being agitated for by the Logan Mayor Jon Raven - the State Government and DTMR plans still involve at station at Holmview, with consultation for the station surrounds currently open for comment.

Seriously, I love train stations as much as the next person, but having Traveston on the SEQ urban rail network is pretty silly. In my world post-B2B duplication I would have the following basic structure:

30 min frequency Brisbane ↔ Beerwah/Caloundra etc

1 Hourly 3 car train Beerwah ↔ Nambour, every third extending to Pomona (three hourly)

Local Minibus Pomona ↔ Traveston

Gympie North out of Translink and served by long distance trains, with possibly an extra daily service to Bundaberg. Tilt train service would go:

Roma Street, Eagle Junction, Northgate, Petrie, Beerwah, Pomona, Gympie North, Maryborough West, Bundaberg

Probably it’s just me but something like that is what you would do if you were starting from scratch.

I think it’s good that you can (kinda) get to Gympie on the SEQ network.

If we’re talking about trying to get regular train services to Toowoomba, I don’t think we should be talking about any reduction of services for stations north of Beerwah in the next breath.

Toowoomba is a city of 150,000 people. I don’t think it’s really comparable with the tiny hinterland towns between Pomona and Gympie.

If Toowoomba ended up with a service that looked something like the Tilt Train I don’t think that would be too bad. Maybe a few more services a day.

Maybe not the tiny hinterland towns in isolation, but the Gympie Regional Council area counts a population just shy of 60,000, which isn’t a number to be sniffed at.

Bindha needs to go. Especially since its on a straight higher speed section of line.

Traveston is iconic but functionally useless.

Will you really get any substantial time saving? Northgate is ~1km from Bindha, and Banyo is <900m the other.

I think Bindha (and by extension, Northgate & Banyo as well) would be a great area for some transit oriented development and some new public housing.

You would have to do something about all of the light industrial uses that are there now. I know town planners who get very cross at proposals to remove light industrial land as it’s important for the whole city economy. I do think, however, that land right next to a station is slightly wasted on it as few people use public transport to access such areas these days.

Northgate to banyo is currently timed at 5 minutes with a stop at bindha. For a distance of less than 2km its pretty slow. Once you’re out of the curve/points for northgate its near straight the whole way and an emu could easily do it the trip in 2.5-3 minutes.

I think it also makes an easier case for possibly extending the northgate starter/terminators to banyo, which would probably have one of the highest patronage/services ratio on the ehole network.

When banyo was closed for upgrades, there was time savings for skipping banyo…

Then I guess the question then is, how many Bindha passengers would we be disrupting the long standing travel patterns of, and is that number of people worth 2 minutes?

Instead of sprawling residential areas further out, we should be moving the industrial estates to the outskirts.
