Cross River Rail (CRR)

Solution. Temporarily cut back to loganlea but once Beenleigh is rebuilt, those services return. You may annoy residents on the Gold Coast but people living at Holmview, edens landing etc will be happy with express service

Well Gold Coast line will probably get more services whereas the Northside lines, particularly Redcliffe won’t see as much change.

Biggest change will see Ferny Grove and also Cleveland Line Passengers (except those between Manly and Cleveland, due to track limitations) get a lot more services.

To solve the problem I have a creative idea. But a costly one and involves new tunnels. If we don’t build the Gympie Road Tunnel, we can instead use that funding to build a new rail tunnel that will start at Mayne yards, and go to new underground platforms at Albion, then stop at Kedron and Chermside before new underground platforms at Carseldine then emerging from there. Then the Shorncliffe line can take over the old track pair along with a new Carseldine service which will be an extension of the Northgate Services and will pair with Ipswich and Springfield which will also see Ipswich and Springfield become Express. Will need new crossovers between Nundah and Northgate for Shorncliffe Line. As for Airport/Doomben they can share the capacity with Cleveland/Ferny Grove with Airport/Doomben services continuing to Indro. As for increasing the Caboolture/Sunshine Coast/Redcliffe line services, CRR capacity is limited to 24tph but we could run some extra peak services to Roma Street using exhibition loop.

Cross River Rail construction ramps up after 148 days of union strike action

Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg said works had since ramped up, with projects on track for completion in early 2029 and the government confident it could maintain the $19bn budget

What we’ve done is re-baseline the program, which puts us in a position where a lot of the construction work will be finished over this next 12-month period,” he said.

.

Considering the joint TMR and Council plans, I think they are planning this from the mid 2030s

Albion will be a major transfer hub for Northern Services, similarly what they have done with Boggo Road.

Blue team cancelled CRR and wasted to replace it with the BaT tunnel.

They were only drawings from both versions with no commitments of funding at the time.

It would be really good if Albion could be built with 3 island platforms with Cross Platform Transfers in mind. I haven’t figured out how to do that, given you cross breakky creek in an up down up down up down arrangement, but it should be doable.

I have always envisioned it as diving again before Albion and having underground platforms connecting to the surface platforms

I tend to think the version that we’d get (if we get one) would dive between Brekky Creek and Albion station, with new platforms under the vacant lots and carparks to the west. That makes the most sense. I just also think that a cross platform interchange would be very helpful if we want the system to move people efficiently and conveniently, and I don’t think its completely infeasible to do if it was something that the State cared about.

… However, with the route requiring years of testing – revealed by the state government late last year – the completed stations are expected to sit empty for years. …

:frowning:

I still struggle to see testing take that long unless there are serious issues found. I’ll eat my words if it does come to fruition, but it seems like they are padding out the time in case of issues to avoid a bad look.

My view is that the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority has failed to keep the project on track, and has allowed this to manifest as years of putative delay. I have heard there has been some issues with track work, like track being laid in wrong position, not once but twice! There is a lack of confidence within that they can meet deadlines, hence 2029. In short, they are having a lend of us, :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Another reason why CRRDA, QR, and Translink should merge :man_facepalming:

Testing shouldn’t take that long. I think the issue is that until the QTMP trains arrive, CRR won’t be able to run as many trains as promised.

CRRDA are a construction authority I believe. They will give ownership to QR once the tunnel opens. That said, idk why we don’t have a standardised authority seperate to TMR coordinating all PT projects. Something like Victoria’s big build or Perths metro net.

As for QR merger into TransLink, I agree but in saying that, am gonna miss QR nostalgia

That’s what I reckon too, a PT delivery authority because there is so much to do over the next 2 decades.

It seems they are leaning towards something like this with the future rail centre in the city for stakeholders. Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

So you’re telling me that they misplaced the tracks and had to rebuild them on two separate occasions? Where did those track misplacements happen? When did they happen? Surely the track cutting across the new Breakfast Creek rail bridge is only temporary and doesn’t count as a track misplacement…

Only what I heard from a reliable source. Not sure of the exact circumstances.

Any potential names for this authority. Also though costly initially, introduce a state owned construction company, it will save us a lot of money long term. Private contractors often delay and jack up the prices of projects. It’s not the unions fault that CRR blew out. It is also the contractors.
