Cross River Rail (CRR)

So what will happen now to the existing platform 1 after the new one opens?

Isn’t it just a temp platform currently and once the whole P1 opens it’ll be the full length of the busway with buses arriving on the westmost side of the platform rather than on the eastern end as it is currently?

Should build the world’s tallest building. Just need to change the flight paths. Bring it on Jeddah and Dubai!

We will build our own Bris Khalifa

Increasing height limits wouldn’t just require changing flight paths, it would require Brisbane Airport to build a brand new radar system to deal with the radar shadows cast by taller towers.

Even then, we’re never going to out build places pike New York and oil-funded Middle Eastern centres.

Nor should we try to. Brisbane/SEQ needs to become denser, but it doesn’t need to be NYC dense. We should be focusing on mid-density around transit nodes (rail/busway stations), and improving rail frequency.

High-rise buildings typically have a much bigger carbon footprint than mid-rise (4-6 floor) apartment buildings, both in construction and operation.

Good article here:

Put a radar on the tall tower, simples

But we need a global tourist attraction for the Olympics and beyond. Brisbane is already becoming a world city, just look at rising house prices and developments like Queens Wharf, the Olympics and the DEXUS Development at Eagle Street. And there’s more planned like Uptown’s redevelopment whenever that may be coming.

It’s not the same city it was in 2016!

A single tall tower doesn’t a global tourist destination make.

That was what I thought as well.

Doing a bit of digging, it sounds like the eastern section of Platform 1 will form part of the overall platform, but not straight away. When the new section of the platform opens on Monday, the eastern section will close.

The update page on the CRR website elaborates further:

While the access means that bus services will now be running from the upgraded platform 1, works continue at the eastern end, with temporary hoarding and wayfinding signage in place.

I can imagine one part of Plat1 being used to terminate services (M1, 134, 222) with the other section dedicated to through services.

Why does that need to be a giant tower?

Forget towers, lets have more interesting bridges designs!!
