Cross River Rail (CRR)

I’ll be detouring via there tonight.

Anyone know why when CRR opens they’re running Doomben to Indro rather than Boggo Road? I feel like there’s more benefit in running it via South Bank to Boggo Road, you use up some capacity left by there being no more GC/Beenleigh trains running through that section, as well as an eventual pairing with a future Beaudesert line

Breaks sectorisation through Central if you want to run trains over the Merivale. Would require a flat junction/conflicting move somewhere.

Makes more sense to terminate at Corinda imo, given the spare platform

Can’t Doomben already run to the Merivale? IIRC it’s been doing that over last weekend?

For the 4 old central stations the Ferny grove<->cleveland pair will use the current “subs” and the Ipswich<->airport and Springfield<->shorncliffe will use the current “mains”

Then when Ferny grove branches off Ipswich<->airport and Springfield<->shorncliffe will move to the subs before CRR rejoins between Bowen hills and Albion and takes over the mains in that section

So to go “doomben<->boggo road means doomben would have to use the subs on both sides of Albion which they don’t want happening, so doomben trains will follow Springfield and Ipswich trains as being on the mains in the legacy central stations and the subs north of Albion

So in the 3 “sets” map of the CRR doomben is fully aligned with Springfield and Ipswich as if it travelled from boogo road to doomben then it would cross both the Ipswich/springfield set and the Cleveland/Ferny grove set

Yes but right now all of the lines Doomben shares with go over the Merivale. Post CRR they’ll pair with the western lines instead. (What Supersnow said.)

Just have the Doomben line use platforms 1-4 at central so there are no clashes. There will be loads of capacity. Not sure I see the problem with this.

Loads of capacity on P1-4, but it will break sectorisation. Doomben has to share tracks with Shorncliffe and Airport from EJ to at least Albion. Under normal planning that continues through the city, with Ferny-Cleveland isolated.

If Doomben uses P1-4 then sometimes it shares with Shorncliffe/Airport (sector 2) and sometimes it shares with Ferny (sector 3).

As to what we can do with all the free space on Sector 3, we’re not that far from Sector 2 hitting capacity limits from the west in peak.

So if the Roma St junction can handle it, it’d be very convenient to have say 6tph all-stops as Corinda starters on the Subs (terminating at Bowen Hills via Ferny Grove flyover?) with Ipswich and outer Springfield lines running semi-express on the Mains. I have no idea how you’d number that though.

What is the major issue if it breaks sectors ? Can’t you just have a sector Doomben to Boggo Rd and slot this in with the other sectors using the tracks ?

Because the whole point of secularisation is to reduce the cascading effects of something going wrong

If this hypothetical timetabled service was to have an issue it would pull 2 whole sectors down with it instead of 1

They want to avoid the current problem of Bowen hills dewiring taking the entire system down

Heavily congested. Took a while for the M2 i was on to even get on the platfform. Not sure if it’s meant to be longer and part of it is covered by the temporary one.

Its still a shame that platform 1 and 2’s canopies were not some glass structure for the span directly behind the concourse, meaning that one could see the historical station building from the street. Such a missed opportunity that just would have made the grand concourse a step above.

The temporary part of Platform 1 will join the new section again, but first it needs to be remodelled into its permanent form to match the new platform. And yes, there was a fair bit of congestion as can be seen here.

The platform itself looks pretty good, and it is much better integrated now, although it did seem to suffer a little from people crowding down the eastern end, rather than walking up to the lead stop and the western end.

There are some great views down over the rest of the station, but the reflections on the glass at night were brutal.

One benefit of those platforms compared to KGS, it doesn’t stink of effluent randomly.

I mean we almost got a really controversial tower built on the Gold Coast

I think they should reconfigure Corinda station and terminate it there. Could then allow Ipswich services to then go express on their own trackpair whilst Springfield and the short turns at Corinda do the stoppers

Wasnt Ol Donny, was his son Eric moreso planning it.

I just boarded the train at exhibition and just noticed the size of the gap between the platform and the train. Pretty average for a new station. They were warning to hang on to young kids because of the gap.

Eek! That’s a big gap.
Wonder how the gap between Steam Train and platform will be tomorrow - riding the Ekka terminator at 2.55pm
