Passenger Information Screens (PIDs)

Alexandra Hills Shopping Centre Einks were installed around Q2 last year.

They need them at Molison Street at Boundary St stop 5, as well as on Melbourne Street at Manning Street stop 4 in either direction.

The outbound stops on Logan Rd from Greenslopes to Holland Park should get e-ink displays imo.

I’m waiting for ones at Elizabeth Street Stop 81 and Edward Street Stop 145, given the mash up of Clarks and BCC bus services created by the rearrangement of CBD bus stops.

Internal PIDs will be installed on over 5000 buses in NSW. Is there the same commitment here in Qld?

e-ink display at a bus stop showing information about reduced train services.

Not sure if posted prior but here is the ePaper stop at Bellbowrie.

Did you happen to notice if the bottom of the display changed to say anything about reduced train services while you were there?

The one I took the photo of at stop 226 Wickham St changed between having more buses listed, and the reduced trains message. Maybe they think it’s less relevant in Bellbowrie, though.

Volvo BZL buses operated by Transdev that were equipped with Consat equipment now have said systems decommissioned for no apparent reason.

The info screens onboard are now dead weight.

No I didn’t see it rotate through last Saturday.

I’m wondering how long the batteries in the e-ink displays last if we have several bleak days like today, when not much solar power is being produced?

Some tidbits on feedback I gave on why outer network stations don’t have PIDs

We appreciate your feedback regarding stations without Passenger Information Displays (PIDs) and the limited availability of payphones at some locations. While many stations across the network are equipped with digital information screens and payphones, we recognise that this coverage is not yet consistent, particularly at some outer suburban and unstaffed stations. Your comments have been shared with the teams responsible for customer information systems and station amenities for review and consideration.

Providing accurate and timely information to customers is a priority. At stations without digital displays, customers can access real-time assistance via the Assistance Phone unit. By pressing the assistance button, you will be connected to the Customer Engagement team, who can provide information about upcoming services. Some stations are also equipped with a “Next Train Information” button located above the Assistance Phone, which provides automated details on the next arriving service.

Make of this as you will.
EDIT: Spoken with Translink over the phone this afternoon, and they’ve said that the PIDs may be being considered by small team within QR and I could try to contact QR for more information on that

Literally the places that have users less likely to be adept with a mobile phone. I very often have a conversation with older folks about the timetable info on the Shorncliffe line and that’s not even a line with a lot of missing PIDS.

They’re midway through replacing the PIDs ar Northgate by the looks of it

NSW trainlink regional have small PIDs at nearly every, if not every regional station. QR have no excuse.

Surely it’s a quick job for a sparkie to take out and install a screen. Having said that, it reflects the time it takes to do anything rail related in QLD…

They look to be replacing the large housing too at some other stations, so I suspect that the housing will be replaced to.

The PIDs being installed in the ferry terminals have a different style to buses and trains.

Perhaps we can expect to see the PIDs for buses and trains to be updated in the near future?

I took a CityCat from Brett’s Wharf to Teneriffe this afternoon. Didn’t see any sign of a PID at Brett’s Wharf. Teneriffe has a screen installed, but it wasn’t active.

I have the suspicion that if we want information displays on buses TMR/translink will have to force a consistent UI across all operators, not too dissimilar to what Transport for NSW does with their services.
