Passenger Information Screens (PIDs)

Caught the 61 with the new PIDs. They also have audio and it works properly within the tunnel sections in the city as well.

I think the real time system needs rebooting or debugging as it’s been showing incorrect information. For example it’s been duplicating services such as the M2 this morning showing multiple services
of the same route number arriving at the same time. This afternoon is another example with the 305.

I took this while waiting for my bus last Friday night. It’s great how thr E-ink PIDs also show rail buses well in advance. These should be installed at all stops where rail buses stop IMO.

I was thinking since they moved all those stops around in the city, they should install some on Ann St outside KGS and Queen Street at the three stops outside PO Sq. Also they need one at the 412 stop on Roma Street

They’re still offline. None of the dot-matrix LED PIDs on the platform 1 entry to the station are working. Not just the two sets of PIDs near the ticket office, but also the two sets further up the bus platform. Not sure what’s going on here, they’ve been offline for months.

Also, one of the new LCD PIDs on platform 5, facing the stairs, is also not working - and has been for months as well. Not sure what’s going on at Petrie station?

Would also be a hearty welcome if the PIDs also explicitly gave bus cancellation or delay notices. Small things like that can go a long way to making public transport more accessible to everyone

And council has seemingly gave up on printing paper bus timetables (even at Brisbane Square Library!)

I mentioned the issue about cancellations before: it’s all translink’s fault for not bothering with flagging a service as cancelled on their own GTFS system, as they think it’s enough to leave a trip only as “scheduled” and posting a notice on the “Service updates” page and on Twitter.

GTFS-RT has the option to alter service schedules on the fly, cancel them and a lot more.

It’s just TL being lazy.

I was wondering, could there be a potential system in place where you could request that a bus service stop from the display at the bus stop? Ir would be useful for transfer stations with minimal visibility, or for people with low visibility

On 9032 tonight on an outbound M1 and Desto is working (exterior and top row of pids) but the passenger information functions are all inop. This was both the next stop matrix and the info screen. Meant there was no visual way to see if the next stop was activated.

Stolen from reddit - PID on a route somewhere in the Redlands was showing bus stops in London?!

Yep, I’ve complained to Transdev MULTIPLE TIMES about it.

It’s a Luminator system installed on all of their 0xx numbered BusTech VST units which has been showing the demo/placeholder data for years now.

The other thing Transdev fails at? Clear destination blinds. “282 VICTORIA PT SHOP” Is genuinely terrible, and that’s just one example.

The PIDs at the busway stops display the buses’ arrival times in time format rather than showing the estimated wait time for the next bus which is a bit inconvenient.

^^They must be off line

That’s what happens when the real time system is down for whatever reason - the PIDs revert to displaying scheduled arrival times, which can be identified due to their using an XX:XX format rather than an xx mins format.

2047 tonight on 61 southbound. Haven’t seen that displayed before.

Nothing too substantial to add however a lot of fun and creativity can be made with a little AI voicework and Microsoft paint

TMR are absolutely smashing it with the new e-ink timetable rollout on the Sunshine Coast. They did a blitz of most of the urban bus stops about 2-3 weeks ago replacing a number of them seemingly overnight and now they’ve done Landsborough interchange too. Great stuff.

I spotted this one the other week at Marsden Park (now known as Home Co Marsden - also a major interchange spot for the 560 and 545) in Logan.

Rollout is progressing well. They’ll be popping up at regional bus stops before the end of this year (i.e. Cairns, Rockhampton, etc.).
